Configuration - Options screen: search through configuration
Total Commander configuration includes lots of various options. As a consequence, it is sometimes hard to find the one you need, even though you know (or can guess) the name of the option - you have to look through many tabs/pages and can miss the option in the end (by tab/page I mean the items in the list on the left side of the Configuration - Options screen). The more and more options are added with time - the more and more complicated it becomes.
Today, to solve this problem, many applications add an ability to search by a keyword in the configuration. For example, search bar could be added on the top of the list of tabs/pages in the Configuration - Options window. Once keyword is entered - the list of pages could be filtered showing only those tabs/pages where options with entered name (part of entered name) are found. Ideally, it could also highlight this option in the form itself.

You can make a search in the help, which describes all the configuration options.

Oh! Thank you, I didn't know that.
However, while it makes things easier indeed, I still think that having a dedicated search right in the place would be easier to use. It is easier to access, and could show only dedicated search results (only through the configuration options).
Thank you anyway, I will use the help meanwhile

You can also use Configuration Editor, where you will find all TC settings with their full description.

But it requires to restart TC.ts4242 wrote:You can also use Configuration Editor, where you will find all TC settings with their full description.

Find/Search/Filter the ''Configuration'' items improvement.
Settings Search Image
Total Commander has a lot of Settings.
It would be useful a quick way to find through them as show in the image.

Re: Find in Configuration
Total commander has a lot settings without interface. Just open wincmd.ini in notepad and search what you want.Amsis wrote: Total Commander has a lot of Settings.

It's what I do but it's no "quick"LonerD wrote:[...]

BTW a similar filter is already preset in "Choose Command" window or in "Choose plugin property" of the "Custom columns" settings

good options overview plus an explanation what the settings are for.
Search-box to find settings in configuration dialog
Hi,
in UltraEdit there is this option to find specific settings in the configuration dialog window:

Such a search would be nice in TC, too!
Thanks, mtemp

I'm searching and searching...
But, sorry
, the "full text search" in "UE" works fine – but only after clicking on one of the (3) found categories:

You must be kiddingbecause there are not too many pages in TC options

Of course there is enough complexity in configuration. to justify a search.
This is the gold standard when it comes to search in settings:
