Hi,
We work with large image sequences on a daily basis. Until now there is no replacement for windows explorer which would help us manage this kind of data.
The functionality we are looking for is 'collapsing file sequences'. The behavior is similar to collapsing or expanding folders. A file sequence like:
BM_SH17_test_23.0000.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0001.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0002.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0003.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0004.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0005.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0006.tif
would look like:
+ BM_SH17_test_23 [0-6]
Clicking on the + sign would then show this:
- BM_SH17_test_23 [0-6]
BM_SH17_test_23.0000.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0001.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0002.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0003.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0004.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0005.tif
BM_SH17_test_23.0006.tif
The advantage is that huge sequences become very easy to handle:
+ BM_SH17_test_23 [0-6]
+ BM_SH17_test_24_original_length [0-942]
+ BM_SH17_test_25_extended [0-1247]
Clicking and dragging the collapsed file name copies them all, renaming the whole sequence becomes a nobrainer, ... etc.
Is there such a plugin available, or would somebody be interested in creating one?
Regards,
James

It's not exactly what you want, but maybe it's the first step. Look here.
Thanks DJK.
It is indeed a good starting point. But there remains much to desire for.
Double clicking does not open the image file as it does in the non collapsed mode. Using the F3 button instead shows the image file as text.
It would be nice if you could have it active all the time, and be able to look into a single collapsed sequence instead of collapsing or expanding a complete directory.
I'm not sure if all this is possible with plugins. The fact that this is version 0.10 gives me hope though.
Cheers,
James
