Well, I did write to you that it was a binary file - try to open for examle a .dll or an .exe file in Notepad - you will get the same kind of "weird writing"

it didn't say any of my information or what my product number is

And in your first post, you didn't say that you wanted to know your product number - you wrote that you wanted to copy your key, so that was what you (in the first place) was given information about.

BTW - The license number is nothing to be secretive about - people often has it in their signature in this Forum

I really don't understand your problem because besides Vansumsen' solution, you should be able to find your license number in your Invoice & TC Personal License documents, because as a registered user (you said that you have paid good money for it) you should have received them from Christian, with a Cd/Floppy that contains the key file that you're trying to locate in the registry.

Please calm down, it really makes no sense to quarrel about nothing! The key is binary and cannot be read with text editors, just like Excel files cannot be read with text editors. You can see your licence number in the program (Total Commander) when the key is placed in the program directory, just go to the menu Help - About Total Commander.

I think that this is all just a big misunderstanding. Many users here, including myself and Clo, are not native English speakers. So some remarks by TC56 really look like asking for cracks to some people, although they aren't if you look closer.

Furthermore the wincmd.key file can also be placed in a zip file with the name of tcmdkey.zip. This zip file must NOT be compresed (compression level=0).

Funny feature
BTW compression level = 9 also works here.

Hi , i've tried tcmdkey.zip with compression levels 0-1-6-9 and it only works with level=0  (Tc 6.56).

Are you sure you don't have a wincmd.key somewhere in the path tha TC uses?

I can not make it work without level-0 compression which is also what the history.txt says:

[Other additions]
- TC 6.0 now also accepts tcmdkey.zip containing wincmd.key instead of wincmd.key. The key must be stored (no compression) in the file.

BTW - wincmd.key is the ONLY file inside tcmdkey.zip that has to be level-0 compressed. You can add other files to tcmdkey.zip with level-9 compression - and it will still work

IIRC because of e-mail attachments not getting through when sending the unpacked wincmd.key file.
