%P%N cause errors starting IcoFx…

Hello !

• For four weeks, I installed a very good freeware IcoFx to create¦view all icons types…

• I've set two buttons in a bar, one to start the programme with the parameters %P%N.
- This worked fine till the 7.0 ß-4. Now I've an error message telling that the config. files can't be reached, access denied.
- But still, there is not any Read only item in the path, and I repeat, that worked before. Moreover, I'm the only user¦Admin.

- I removed these parameters, then the programme starts OK again…

• The other button opens the config. folder directly, here :

e:\Documents and Settings\CLAUDE\Application Data\IcoFX\

• I installed the same buttons in TC 6.56, and I got a strange error message you can see HERE
- The part in French says : "The specified path can't be found"… Crasy !

- Note : Pretty hard to get that capture, I had to make a video then to capture it while paused…
It seems that IcoFx disable totally the PrintScreen key ! I experienced that issues several times already…

- Removing the parameters makes that it works again quite fine !

Any idea ? Getting only DOS names is annoying a lot for the “Reopen” list in the icon soft…

Hello Clo!
Are you using still the same version ouf your programme or was it recently updated?

My first thought was a programme could use the wrong Control character for SysRq and Print screen.

Today disabling the printscreen is an option Windows offers to movies, music videos, and computer games. Warning: Non-Microsoft print screen utility programs available for purchase also have to honor these licensed media rights and will not copy them correctly.

Windows Media Player / Windows Update => DRM => printscreen => licensed media rights ?

• It's still the same version 1.5.01 dated February 4th. 2007. Only the version of TC has changed meanwhile…

• The issue to capture the screen existed since the beginning, though…
- I wonder to know whether this is a bug or voluntarily set by the Author…

Here PrintScreen works as usual.
The same with passing any parameters to IcoFX (%P%S or %P%N).

Maybe just a Windows in agony is causing you problems or some other program is interfering .

• Thanks for the feedback. Strange, PrintScreen and Alt+PrintScreen work OK in ALL other programmes !
- But in IcoFx, *peanuts* !
- I'll live without parameters, till I¦one find¦s a reason for what causes these errors here.

Please make the following test:
1. Create a text file named test.bat in the directory of IcoFx containing

echo %0 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
pause

2. In the TC configuration, replace the call to IcoFx to the call to test.bat

3. Try to open such an icon.

-> do you see any differences in the command line between Total Commander 7 beta 4 any some older version.

PLEASE make this test, it's VERY important!

Good evening !

• Found ! For some unknown reason, the EXE of that soft has been slightly changed¦damaged ,
I compared with the Paul Vansumsen's one, the CRC and compare the contents gave different !
- No virus or so found, though…
- Using the same EXE than Paul, the right running came back now using the parameters !

• Aside : about the captures, it seems that the own "Capture" function of the soft
prevents to use the keys (Paul's assumption, right I guess, he has the same issue with a French XP)

An exe file changing ("by itself") without you knowing it! I would try all the virus scanners I can find - this is a VERY alarming behaviour.

I agree with Petermad. Maybe you should also send the file to a service like Virus Total to let them scan the file with multiple scanners.

• Tss, tss ! Nothing in the EXE, scanned from the two sites you quote ! Not even the tip of the tail of a baby-virus inside !

• Like I said above, I used the EXE from Paul's, and all is OK again !
