[bug?]Don't ask when delete from passworded archive

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[bug?]Don't ask when delete from passworded archive

Post by *DrShark »

TC don't prompt for the password when I try to delete file(s) from passworded zip-archive. TC simply delete file(s).

Password protection in ZIP files only protect files from being read. You still are allowed to delete or overwrite files without the password.

Or do you mean a confirm dialog? The confirm dialog is shown for me.

TC don't show for me any prompt/confirmation dialogs when I deleting files inside zip archive. I think it's not normal that anybody, who don't know password from my archive, can delete/owerwrite all files inside it...

The ZIP file is only a container. The container is not password protected. Only the single files are protected by the password. TC behaves just like expected. Also other ZIP software allows to delete password protected files inside a ZIP archive. If you need a password protected container you cannot do this with ZIP.

Perhaps software like TrueCrypt is of interest for you.

An alternative way: Archivers like WinRAR allow to also hide the file names inside an archive.
This way users without a password can't see any files, so they can't change any files in the archive. Only users knowing the correct password will be able to see the files inside.

Unfortunately TC doesn't recognize RAR files with password protected names (see this thread). So TC can't list the contents of those, only unpack them completely.
In the above thread there is a link to a plugin for that (which I have not tested yet).

Example archive: TOTALCMD_INC2_pw-filenames.rar, used archive password is p.

:)Hello !

• The excellent packer-plugin TotalSQX by Lefteous supports the same features than WinRar, and it's free of charge…
- You may set a password for the file listing too…
