TC7rc4 - File Association

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC7rc4 - File Association

Post by *DougAJ4 »

Changing file associations through TC7 does not appear to work with Vista.

I tried changing xls and mpg extensions and neither worked, although the new associations were displayed in the list.

Changing through the Vista menu worked OK.

If you change an association ONLY ONCE via "open with" on Vista, then Vista creates a registry key called "UserChoice". Unfortunately this key cannot be changed by ANY program, not even with full admin privileges! The only way to change it is again via "Open with", which seems to work together with a service running with very specific user rights. Only this service is allowed to change this UserChoice key...
