MS Office icons
Hi there.
About two months ago, i can't see MS Office Icons in totalcmd. I see standard file icon in his place.
I upgrade my version to 7.0, but they do not appear.
Are there anyone solution??
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, but i think that it isn't my solution. I had trying several icon packs and it doesn't resolve my issue.
I don't speak about file icons in general or button bar icons. My problem are microsoft office icons only, in file panel.
Sorry, but I can't post an image until wednesday.
Thanks, another time
Regards.

Associations in Windows have become a real chaos of dozens of different registry key locations. I would need to know how exactly the associations are defined on your system to find out why the office icons aren't shown, sorry.

No I don't, because SHGetFileInfo gets difficult to recognize icons. For example, for files where there is no DefaultIcon entry, TC shows the icon of the associated EXE. SHGetFileInfo, however, returns a "sheet of paper" with a small version of that icon, which can hardly be recognized...

For this reason I think a better solution would be to get the icons from the system to avoid problems as described in this report.
If the user thinks the displayed icon is not recognizable he can choose another one. THis can be done system-wide or with a TC internal association system which is hopefully implemented in the future.

So you don't trust the system to get the icons. The idea to provide better recognizable ideas is fine but the Windows association system is too complicated to make this happen - as you wrote above.SHGetFileInfo gets difficult to recognize icons.

1. The papersheet icon has a signal character which you are hiding from the user. It's a bad idea to confuse users with what you think is better "recognizable" because on the desktop, in Explorer, in other file managers, open with dialog, etc... the icons are displayed differently. For example, for files where there is no DefaultIcon entry, TC shows the icon of the associated EXE.
2. The papersheet icon is displayed not very often in Explorer because of the PerceivedType feature. Under HKCR\SystemFileAssociations there are fallback types defined which use general icons, so even when no DefaultIcon is defined in the direct association, Explorer still displays a full icon and NOT the papersheet. It makes no sense to dream about Windows 95 registry, this is outdated crap. The PerceivedType feature rocks because it allows to assign 100 extensions to one application just by adding the appropiate PerceivedType to HKCR\.ext. When the default program needs to be exchanged, one single change in the PerceivedType will update all 100 extensions in one single step.
3. Another signal problem in TC:
Please add an option to get rid of that exclamation mark (!) icon you are displaying for hidden and system files. In Explorer I can see the true icon dimmed and therefore am able to see in which application it will be opened when I doubleclick it. TC hides this information from me.
Please, make TC compatible to Explorer icon and execute behaviour, remove the internal association dialog because it's hopelessly outdated and does more harm than good and replace it with some decent internal association override feature, as proposed by Lefteous.
