Issue creating a new PowerPoint from right-click new
The issue is about the file .ppt created after right clicking and entering the document name.
The document created has a ReadOnly attribute, and an old format
When doing the same from desktop the file created is different but this file works.

But I can say that the viewer comes up with different messages (here translated from Danish) for not opening the two files:
I don't have any Micro$oft Office programs on my private computerHave you tried with PowerPoint?

But I can say that the viewer comes up with different messages (here translated from Danish) for not opening the two files:
PowerPoint Viewer can not open the file "test.ppt" because the file is made in a version of PowerPoint which the viewer does not support.
PowerPoint Viewer supports files made in PowerPoint 97 or newer.
PowerPoint Viewer can not open the file "testOK.ppt" because it does not contain any slides.

TC looks in the registry how to create such files via File-New. I assume that for .ppt, the registry refers to a file underhe issue is about the file .ppt created after right clicking and entering the document name.
The document created has a ReadOnly attribute, and an old format
c:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Templates
or
c:\Documents and Settings\All users\Templates
This file is probably outdated and has the read-only attribute. Just replace it with a new ppt file of your choice.

You are right. It seems that windows right clik uses c:\WINDOWS\SHELLNEW\ templates to create new office files and TC uses c:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Templates.
Please correct me if I am wrong:
TC uses these registry keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.4\ShellNew
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.4\ShellNew
and Windows uses these registry keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.8\ShellNew
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.8\ShellNew
The work arround for this problem using version 7.01 of TC was creating a new ppt file on desktop using windows right click, saving it as powerpnt.ppt and replacing the old file in 'Templates' directories under c:\Documents and Settings\

Yes, TC uses the first key under .ppt which has the ShellNew entry. There is no documentation at all how to choose the right ShellNew key...
