Real-time filtering

Post by *roentgen »

Will this ever happen in TC?

Vista's explorer looks promising (and fast too): here, here and here.

Simple filters could be done by custom commands and a new custom menu added to your custom main menu. It's just a little work.

Well TC doesn't feature grouping at all. I just wanted to point out that you can add one click filters in TC7 manually.

Grouping is out of the question in TC unfortunately, but I was referring to the filtering option which is available both in TC and Vista explorer.

Let's build a 'A-F' filter by name in TC. This requires some regex syntax of course and most important would not affect directories, which are displayed regardless of the applied filter. Making it short: we have half of a filter there . Moreover, even if one builds such filter, one needs to create an em_ command for it, use a custom menu file, modify this menu in a not very straight forward way, etc.

All in all: for one filtering command one wastes ~1h with investigations and experiments. Assuming that the next filtering commands would require less time due to the knowledge gained in the process, I still estimate wasting half of a day to build similar explorer filters.

Now let's go further to the filtering by date... Ooops. Should I build 365 custom commands to match every day of the year???

....
....

// Bah... enough crap for one day...

A*;B*;C*;D*;E*;F*

A*\;B*\;C*\;D*\;E*\;F*\

If you really need it.

A*;B*;C*;D*;E*;F*
A*\;B*\;C*\;D*\;E*\;F*\
Would you mind typing the rest of the filters, til the letter Z, so I may copy-paste. I get dizzy with all those stars

As for the rest: I am talking about usability. It's not a question whether TC can do it or not. As a matter of fact I bet cmd.exe has even greater filtering possibilities, but I don't see myself using it anytime soon .

Well I just provided a way how to get a comparable result. If you don't like it - hard luck!

thx , was looking for a way to display part of dir names.
And the *photo*\ worked great.

Now if it is possible to have tc do this why not have this as a simple feature.

Lets say, kick on total drive size bar , and u get a [ ] simple white box.
Type what u want and tc directly uses the filter. and OFC include folders plz.

(Like the great firefox search plugins http://legege.com/en/mozilla/searchwp).

Maybe filtering by simple box usage? Something like for quick search (but without automatic closing).
