'by content' not working when sync with archive

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

'by content' not working when sync with archive

'?' showing.
I think if function not implemented, it should be disabled if at least one of sync sides is an archive content (except zip and all archives which will be supported in sync dirs in future).

This is indeed not supported at the time. The option is not disabled to avoid that the user has to re-enable it every time after comparing an archive...

So the behaviour will not be changed?
Or you'll implement this function for some next release?

Maybe I will implement it, but it's not easy - you can't just unpack the files in the order in which they are shown when you have solid archives like RAR.

Hi christian, :P

I don't understand why it is so difficult to work with RAR files and not with ZIP files :?

Can you explain more :?:

Best regards

:) Good evening,

• IMHO, simply because ZIP has free and gratis available sources, while RAR is a shareware.
That needs agreements between the authors for each case in such operations.

In solid RAR files you have to unpack almost the complete archive to get one file out,
because the files are not just stored one after another.
That's what makes the good compression possible.

In ZIP files this is no problem, AFAIK.

That's true but why is the order so important? I don't think it would be a problem if the compare process isn't processed completely from top to bottom. Even showing no progress while comparing solid archives is better than the current situation.
