Search-and-replace module

Post by *Digistor »

Browsing the net for tools to find and replace text or add text to files - I came across one of a certain interest
... (see msg #4 below).

(This integrated utility suite looks - btw. - surprisingly like TC ... agree? )

The program proved to be extremely handy for text string replacements in series of files - f.ex. in collections of html-files (webmaster speaking ... ).

Could someone similarly implement this functionality into TC? If so, this would be highly appreciated!

Unbelievably! The author even stole some icons 1:1 into his program.
Why did he make a whole new application instead of an addon for TC. I really don't understand such people.

This is incredible,

not only icons had been copied, the software itself is a look-a-like-TC with MRT as well. Even dialog boxes, and keyboard control had been copied from TC, too.

I think the author of this software should be contacted and he should make his tool available as a plugin for TC without any charge.

Ok, this tool is handsome, but it really should be available as plugin for TC, or even it should be integrated into TC core.

Well, maybe in TC 6.5 Christian will have done a good job of copying and even adding some improvments to this tool:)

True Total Commander enthusiasts obviously are provoked by this piece of software from ReplSoft ...

No surprise, perhaps?! Take a look at some screenshots of the program - at http://home.no.net/infoplus/ufu

The resemblance to Total Commander seems fairly obvious.

(Perhaps the company name is an abbreviation for REPLicated SOFTware ...?!)

The program can be downloaded from their site - http://www.replsoft.com/index.html
- or you can stick to the screenshots above only - if you hesitate to honour ReplSoft by paying them a visit ...

And what is so bad about using a good design? I admit, it should be mentioned somewhere if it isn't, but I haven't read the docs. Even TC's design has been inspired by another file manager.

We're acting exactly the same way! If we see a good feature or whatever we too ask Christian to implement it into TC.

The S&R-modul is a good idea; also the basket is something I'd like to see in TC.

Ok.
What about TC full modular?
TC will have robust file-handle core (copy, move, delete, ...) and GUI and other features are in modules (like file compare, synchronize dirs, uue, multi-rename tool, ftp, ...) separate as plugin(s)

For unknown reasons, the ReplSoft company seems to have disappeared from the net ... quite suddenly ...

Hi folks,

this is what I got when I called checkdomain.com:
replsoft.com (Commercial)

The domain that you requested, replsoft.com, has already been registered by the organization below. Please click here to see other options for this name, or click here to back-order replsoft.com now.

Registrant:
timeout

Information Source:
OpenSRS
It seems that this guy forgot to pay his internet provider, or his domain has put on hold for some other reasons :)

Case 1: He might be back on the net again soon.
Case 2: He will not be on the net again at least with his Useful File Utilities, because the case will go to court.

Well, we will certainly not bring him to court. He built a program which looks similar to ours, but he did it on his own, so there's nothing to say against it. I wrote my Commander also as a NC for Windows (which didn't exist 10 years ago when I wrote it).

Hi,

This is not my idea to make “Useful File Utilities”. I have worked on it about for 100 USD. But people which asked me to make this program not paid to me. What I’ll need to do after program was ready? (I worked more time for it.) I put it on the internet.
But now this program is a chance for me to get some money. Because I am only 22 years old and on the main work I get only 120 USD/month. I can not get good job in Russia and I may not leave my country.

I am understand if you angry to me and I am sorry.

Also ReplSoft mean “Replacer Software”.

Alexey,
you have made an excellent piece of software! Your UFU was my choice amongst a handful of S&R utilities available on the net - particularly because of its ease of use. And those of us who have had the chance to try it out have experienced a powerful tool which is working flawlessly and which otherwise fully stands up to my expectancy.

I was, however, highly puzzled by its clear resemblance to TC (GUI-wise and 'functionality-wise' as well) - and made the assumption that whereas your software components could be so neatly integrated into your 'shell', a similar achievement could be expectable in TC.

So I launched the new topic 'Search-and-replace module' in this Total Commander Forum - referring to your site, but also urging other programmers to come forth with a similar module for TC.

Now 'The Circle is Closed' ... Your handy S&R utility is once again on the net. A powerful tool is still available.

And the tantalizing question remains: Will TC come up with a corresponding (or 'similar') function?
