Timestamp not copied when I move directories

Post by *pdav »

Hey there!

I was wondering if you could help me with this, I looked thru all the topics in this forum but no success so far.

When I COPY a directory (with files and subdirectories in it), the 'writedate' timestamp is correctly copied (the option is turned on in the options), this is the desired effect. However, when I MOVE, each directory that has a subdirectory in gets the current timestamp.

This started to happen like 3-4 days ago and it is really annoying: now I have to copy and then delete to get the desired effect. (NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate is set to '1' but it has nothing to do with this I guess).

Do you have any idea how to set Total Commander to copy timestamps when I move directories? Thanks in advance!!

I can only reproduce what you describe when the directory that I move already exists in the target panel, so that I have to confirm overwriting the files. The moving also has to take place on the same drive and the drive has to be NTFS partitioned

Interesting enough that doesn't happen when I copy a directory and the directory already exists in the target panel. In that case the dir date is kept.

It's an unfortunate "feature" of the NTFS file system: Sometimes it update the directory timestamp when something in that directory changes, sometimes it doesn't, it's quite unpredictable. :(
