Posterity
Okay, for posterity I've worked out where the registry entries are, and people might find this post:
In the Registry - for - wincmd.ini - location - name - value - is:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\GHISLER\wcx_ftp.ini
for the FTP ini
and
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\GHISLER\wincmd.ini
for the tccmd.ini - sorry, wincmd.ini - file.
Note that the reference is in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ghisler\Total Commander]
in the registry.
Note also that the references are to the 'name' - rather than to the location.
Note, finally, that this seems to force the location for ALL users of the computer to one *relative* location, i.e. %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\GHISLER\ for everyone. It doesn't seem possible for each user to set his own preference.
Assuming that each user has permission to set his location... but that's an entirely new can of worms.
Vista is very big on permissions, in case you hadn't noticed..
Search tags: location ini wincmd registry edit inireloc fails manual

Why do I have to search through German in this forum?
Why isn't there a TC Knowledgebase? How about a Wiki?
Do new buyers understand the references to WinCmd in TC?
Will Help ever be updated from Windows 3.0 vintage?

You're welcome. I had a good laugh with your signature as well.Wellll,, that's clever. Nice joke, icfu. Thanks heaps
You should not write tutorials, people might find, read them and end up more confused than before.
Every standard TC installation has a HISTORY.TXT.There ain't one!

Ah haaa - buried down there in the program folder.icfu wrote: Every standard TC installation has a HISTORY.TXT.

People shouldn't be burrowing around in the program folder; you know that.
It's Vista Rules (noun) now!
BTW, TC does a rotten job of installing for multiple users, don't it?
We really need IM here...
The standard TC installation directory is c:\totalcmd\, not %programfiles%.
TC offers all possibilities to install TC for multiple users during setup, the only question is what settings should be default, has more than once been discussed.
The search tags you have used for your tutorial might lead you to the light, when using the forum search.

It is not a real signature - it has different content in different postings, and it is too long - the forum doesn't allow the user to enter signatures of that length.2PeterTBCarp
What about updating your signature? It' quite outdated. Looks like you haven't been here for ages.

Why are you picking on Vista in a WinCmd forum? You've been a bad boy in the past and Vista is at last making you behave. So accept it, learn it and like it.

While we're at it, try this quick quiz: where is that signature originally a ripoff from? Two famous sources, actually...?

Ban Sigs
Yep, mine's a fake sig, too. Too small a limit.Lefteous wrote:Ah I see - quite irritatingIt is not a real signature - it has different content in different postings, and it is too long - the forum doesn't allow the user to enter signatures of that length.
And I agree - they're irritating. Like jokes: funny the first time - only. After that they're a distraction, a waste of time and a nuisance.
But until they're banned we have to abuse them. That's the way of the world..

Ban them!
Here we go. . v v v

Why do I have to search through German in this forum? - Swahili? Baah! Every Search requires a resetting of forums to search, and do I search TC or TC7 Bugs?
