Issues with x64DisableRedirection=1

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Issues with x64DisableRedirection=1

Post by *m^2 »

I reported that Squeez shell extension crashes with x64DisableRedirection set to 1 before. While discussing the issue with Sven Ritter, the author of Squeez, he posted about several other issues.
Sven Ritter wrote:With disabled redirection Total Commander is not able to Ctrl+C/V files on my Vista x64. If "Properties" is selected in the context menu nothing happens. Comparing two files with Araxis Merge 6.5 fails because Araxis Merge shows an initialization error. Some commands are not shown in the context menu in opposite to enabled redirection.
The topic.
The post.

I didn't test Araxis Merge and don't know what extensions did he have, but I don't experience any of these with my XP x64.

I can't remember any bug report like that reported here, so it's more likely that Sven's crashes are related to his environment only.

You should recommend him to try ShellExView to disable even buggier extensions than Squeez. ;)

Sorry, no 64 bit OS here, so I can't test it.

Normally x64DisableRedirection shouldn't be set to 1, except if you need to do extensive work with the 64-bit "system32" directory. Even then it's usually better to create a hard link somewhere which points to the Windows directory - it's possible to access the 64-bit "system32" directory this way without any dirty tricks.

Don't you think that setting it on and off is not a comfortable solution? I think that TC should turn redirection off only when accessing redirected folders (or folders containing such). And these are MS guidelines.

Indeed it's just a workaround to a Windows misfeature at the moment. I will probably add an internal cm_xyz command to turn it off/on dynamically in TC 7.5.

I found an extension that doesn't start with x64DisableRedirection=1. TC UP Shell Extension.
It's just a note, I guess that it will be fixed.
