Drive icons in Folder Tabs and Drive List

Post by *X-Byte »

I did some searching for this subject in the forums but couldn't find anything related. If I'm wrong, ignore this post ;)

It would be very convenient to optionally display the drive icons in the "Folder Tabs" and "Drive selection list".

In the Drive selection list you would get a quick overview of the drivetypes, especially when lots of local/removable/network drives are attached to the system.

In Folder Tabs it's even more convenient, as there's usually only the current folder name used as tab name. Having the drive icon in front of the tab name makes it much easier to see at least the drive type where the folder is located. I often have similar folder names, located locally and on network locations opened at the same time, so a drive icon would greatly improve the distinction between those same-name-tabs.

Comments welcome :)

Hello, X-Byte.

I do agree with your suggestions.

Here are the workarounds / current ways of getting the information which you miss:

Folder tabs:
Activate the setting "Always show drive letter in tab title".

Drive selection list:
Right next to each drive letter, there is a drive hint, something like "removable drive", "DVD drive" or "Boot" (for my C: drive e.g.).

Kind regards,
Karl

Thanks for the drive letter hint on the Folder tabs. I activated it and it proves to be usefull :) I still wish i had an additional drive icon though ;)

I was aware of the fact that the names/descriptions are shown next to the drive letter. A drive icon would give a fast drive type overview at a glance, without having to read the additional text.

So I hope Christian Ghisler will also comment on this.

Bye

If you don't like the colon (:) as separator between the drive letter and the folder name, you can change that with the TabSeparator= setting in the [Configuration] section of your wincmd.ini file.
