Because different TC versions, TC addons and even plugins rely on the ini current location settings - they would all break if this is suddenly changed.

I don't want to break all that. The current hierarchy is as documented here:

http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=69998#69998

I would like to insert the new location AFTER point 4 - so lower than the Windows directory.

You mean that TC should look (when starting) whether there is an ini in the Windows dir, and if not, create it in "Documents and Settings" or so?

Support++.
This will be more user friendly for new users. I ALWAYS have to pay special attention to this issue when installing TC at customers PC.
With this I'll be able to do a more careless installation.

Yes, I second that motion.
I currently pre-install tc in my OS disks, but for that to work I need to use

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ghisler\Total Commander]
"IniFileName"=".\\wincmd.ini"
"FtpIniName"=".\\wcx_ftp.ini"
"InstallDir"="%SystemDrive%\\tcdir

and mainly that last entry sucks ass, obviously..

To Ghisler

Is it possible to put two options at the beginning of installation such as :
- Normal installation
- Portable installation

Someone can prefer normal installation (classical installation) and someone can prefer portable installation (just unzip all into application folder with "ini" files, maybe shortcuts can be asked)

this may help to solve the problem
