Suggestion for multi-rename tool
I'd like to see a "translator" from, for example, russian filenames to english filenames, cyrilic to latin. Not translation of words, only letters. For example, russian cyrilic letter for "ch" would be translated to it's english alter.
If you know software that tries to do that, please let me know and I think it would be a nice addition for multi.rename tool.

Yes. It is. PsPad editor can do it.hlloyge wrote:I'd like to see a "translator" from, for example, russian filenames to english filenames, cyrilic to latin. Not translation of words, only letters. For example, russian cyrilic letter for "ch" would be translated to it's english alter.

The few steps are:
1) Prepare PsPad with your code conversion (Tool / Global conversion characters)
2) Make a selection with files that you want
3) Save selection ( / )
4) Make a file with a list of files (w/o extension)
5) Load the file in PsPad
6) Make the conversion
7) Save the file
Restore selection
9) Start Multi Rename Tool from TC
10) Finally... load the names for rename action from file saved early into PsPad
If is not too long, I know that it is a plug-in (WDX) for that job but I don't remember its name.

Just curious, can't this be done with MRT, Search & Replace?
Or is missing Unicode the problem there?Example: Replace Umlauts+Accents:
Search for: ä|ö|ü|é|è|ê|à Replace with: ae|oe|ue|e|e|e|a
Who the hell is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk?

This (translit) functionality is available via context plugin:

(the name of the Russian file is not displayed properly and it shows the ??????.doc instead of the Russian letters and that's because of the regional settings that I haven't yet set up to display Russian for non-unicode applications. Otherwise if you can display Russian names properly in Total Commander, this plugin should work like a charm. I have been using it for a long time. It's customizable and you can specify which Russian letters you want to replace with which English.

This is the plug-in for this job (translit). It is the same plugin. Exactly what you want.
You can see or download even from HERE.

File rename - transliteration
I have been searching for software which would do that, but I can't. It would be great if we could have file rename transliteration from russian cyrilic to latin and vice versa (if possible).
[mod]Merged thread File rename - transliteration. Thanks icfu.

You have already asked that here:

Why don't you use Translit and even more important than that:
Why don't you answer in that thread?

So, can this plugin be made to work at all? I was looking for something to do this with file names, I thought this would be it - but nope. "????????" for filenames and an "Error, could not rename the files" message is the only result of this plugin's use.
There should be some installation + use guide included with it, but the only readme that it has now is unreadable. :\

This plugin will not work correctly until its author implements Unicode version.
The only way which might work is starting TC with Russian codepage using this tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx
Obviously: you need to change TC's fonts encoding (Configuration -> Fonts) to cyrylic.
