2Mikefield,

Hey! Boofo's not THAT old. ;) (Actually I am. *sigh*)

I use the best OS available (XP Pro SP3).
chmod a+x /bin/laden -- Allows anyone the permission to execute /bin/laden

How do I un-overwrite all my data?

<Mr WiseGuy on>

Hi, boofo.

cd \.. is basically incorrect, because it says: go to the root folder \ and up one level which is not possible. (But cmd.exe as well as 4NT.exe are kind enough to ignore the unneeded trailing dots and change to the root folder only without complaining.)
In order to go to the root of any given drive go run cd \ only.

About how %COMMANDER_INI%\.. is evaluated: No need for guessing. It has been explained here.

Sorry for playing Mr Wiseguy :oops:, but I have been raised using command lines on MS-DOS way back in the Eighties and have been using the Unix commandlines ever since the Nineties. And Unix does not foregive any syntactical errors. :wink:

Cheers,
Karl

2karlchen,

I was just messing with you. ;) I knew what you meant. I hadn't stated what OS I was using. Yes, I remember the 80s and DOS well. Things sure have changed in that area.

I also use 4nt as well as TCC and Take Command (version 10). I just don't use it very well. ;)

I appreciate all of your help. It makes more sense when it is explained.

Hi, Boofo,

something's telling me that you have found a simple way of making the Mr-Know-It-All in me reveal himself. :wink:

Cheers,

Does all of that actually work for you? And you have that in the wincmd.ini, right? One last question...

Is there anything left at all in the wincmd.ini??? ;)

Yes fine :-)
Is there anything left at all in the wincmd.ini
My wincmd.ini still takes up 21 kbytes (the 3 other ini files also takes up 21 kbytes all together).

Sections still in my wincmd.ini:

[Configuration]
[Layout]
[Packer]
[Confirmation]
[Extensions]
[Associations]
[Shortcuts]
[ShortcutsWin]
[Alias]
[Searches]
[Buttonbar]
[DriveHints]
[Tabstops]
[Lister]
[Colors]
[PrintDir]
[SplitPerFile]
[CustomFields]
[HintsCustomField]
[OverwriteCustomField]

Since I wanna be like you when I grow up, I went ahead and set mine up like your post showed. At first nothing was showing and then I realized I had to move everything to the new files. Amidst the confusion, I think I got it all done, and right, hopefully. You have some items in your that I didn't have in mine (like all the different display settings, the AllResolutions, attrplugin, rename, SyncOptions) just to name a few. You also had this:

Code: Select all

[Selection]
RedirectSection=history.ini
0=*.*
The second line isn't really needed.

It sure cleans up the wincmd.ini file. Now it looks a little more organized. Good job, my friend. And thanks for sharing that. ;)

You are right - I have probable run a pre-TC7 version (not supporting RedirectSection) with the same wincmd.ini at some time. Thanks for spotting that :-)

If you use ResolutionSpecific=0 in [Configuration] you don't need all the [XXXxYYY (8x16)] sections - just the [AllResolutions] section.

I take it I just copy the settings for my current resolution in the AllResolutions settings in the user.ini?
