Tccrypt: Tool to decrypt TC 7.5 passwords (with master pass)

Post by *ghisler(Author) »

As promised, I'm publishing a tool which demonstrates the new password encryption and decryption in Total Commander 7.5. The tool is published with full source code under a BSD-style license. This allows everyone to review the code for possible security holes.

The tool can be used to show a forgotten ftp password in plain text, as long as you know the master password.

You can download it here:
tccrypt program
tccrypt source

Simply run the tool by double clicking the program in Total Commander (so it will find the wcx_ftp.ini by itself).

Please note that the tool doesn't currently support Unicode, so passwords
with characters from a different codepage will not work.

You can find some technical information about the used encryption in the file readme.txt.

Suggestion: single "Encrypt" click to see all entries at once (in the form of table or list). Dropdown is more annoying.

Hi Christian,
This tool only show passwords for those protected by a master password.
In case I don't use master password, how to see FTP passwords in plain text?
Thanks.

"Error code 78299. Innormal page"

This works (although the program could be improved by letting the user paste a path instead of having to navigate through the tree, ie. saving multiple clicks)

It's a little bit strange, that it's only working for connections secured by a master password.
I don't want to use a Polish tool, where I can't read anything on the website. Furthermore the link seems to be invalid (not directly linked to a tool).
Fortunately the workaround is quite easy: set a master password (which can be removed later).

Nevertheless it would be fine if the tool also works for connections, not protected by a master password.
Besides it would be very fine to have a decryption tool integrated in Total Commander. I nearly all tools you have the possibility to see the password (without using a third tool).

Useful tool.
However it's unable to decrypt passwords stored by plugins.
I tried to decrypt passwords stored by your SFTP plugin and this tool doesn't see them at all.
