TC in China

Post by *xbeta »

There're quite a lot TC users in China. They love TC, enjoy TC, and use TC frequently and skillfully. I’d like to share something more of them to the English readers and also to Ghisler.

1. TC forum in China

In fact, it’s a board in forum of newsmth.org (previous Tsinghua University BBS).
Name: TotalCommander
Link:
http://www.newsmth.net/frames.html?mainurl=/bbsdoc.php%3Fboard%3DTotalCommander
Starts: 2005-01-22

Other software forum/board also talk about TC:
- Software @ DreamLand:
https://www.dream4ever.org/forumdisplay.php?f=7
- Software @ http://bbs.et8.net/: only memembers can read ?

2. TC package in China

Like Total Commander Ultima Prime, there’re also some Chinese TC package. With best choiced plugins , more beautiful UI, all Chinese language, they help most Chinese users to start TC Easily.

The most famous packages come from two people:
1. xxxx: this package has been removed from this post, because contains key file.
2. Shanny:TCEE(Total Commander Embellished Edition), TCPP(Total Commander Plugins Package), see:
http://www.shanny.com.cn/

3. TC Chinese resource

- Translated Chinese language file (by frank) and help file (by slownet)
- Translated TC website, see
http://xbeta.info/tc/

4. order TC in China

It’s a little hard (but getting easyer in recent years) for Chinese order TC, for language and payment method reasons. So, in 2006, volunteers help 75 people get their TC licenses.

Now, there is another action is in action, all information and money will send to Ghisler in Sep, 2009.

5. Chinese users wish

Chinese language included in default.
Is it possible in TC 7.5 ?

Glad to see 80+ people joined TC-Order-2009 action in less than 24 hours, even in weekend.

2Christian/Mod: The first TC package should be removed from the forum (or even their website) as it contains a key file. (Or the key should be removed). The key is already on TCs banlist for TC 7.5. But the version of the package is TC 7.0.

I just got frustrated that prejudices about Chinese turn true.
So for every new version of TC Christian gets one license bought for the Chinese. (however not from the Chinese, but from the University of Amsterdam instead)

IMO its really cheeky to bundle it with the installer.

PS: I dont mean to say every Chinese computer user is a criminal.
Shanny is for example a good one who didn't put a key in the installer.
And I am really impressed by this buying action.

But even more important. Do they buy it? There are more and more Chinese users who can afford it.
It’s a little hard (but getting easyer in recent years) for Chinese order TC, for language and payment method reasons.
Can you give more details on that? Where exactly is the problem?

I see the word "order", so it means "they buy". Am I right? :)

Just the word order might not help if it takes volunteers to take order and send money to the author - sounds very strange.

I am really sorry for what they did.
I've removed it from this post.
And sent email out to package developer.

2Lefteous:
I'm afraid most TC users did not buy any license. I'm really sorry and shameful. But we're trying our best to help more people to understand the copyright, and give them an easy chance to buy TC: with a cheaper price, via local payment (I'll collect the money together and send it to Ghisler.)
Some users want to buy, but the register page is in English and need a credit
card, not all can do it. And, the price (38usd = 260 CNY) is a little higher compring with either income or local shareware. Sure, TC really worth such a price, and even more.
Just give us some time. We'll do better.

2Postkutscher:
yes, TC-Order-2009 means they will buy in 2 monthes.

I understand - sometimes the obvious things are invisible to me.
And, the price (38usd = 260 CNY) is a little higher compring with either income or local shareware. Sure, TC really worth such a price, and even more.
The problem with charging less in a certain country in a globalized world is that everyone could buy the cheaper version there.

yes, so the official price must be the same.
and also, that's why we have the buying action:
I negotiate with Ghisler for a discount, which is close to the discount to local resellers. but I did not use the discount for earning money myself, but use this cheaper price for native Chinese users.
since our action is in Chinese language (except this post), so foreigners will not use this price.

你真可爱。
不过,如果国外读者不知道这次活动,也就不能通过google进行翻译了。
另外,我们的报名表限定“国家”必须是中国。

I haven't decided yet whether I will include more languages in the installer of TC 7.5 final. I have already included Russian and Romanian as a "thank you" for increasing orders from these countries. There aren't many orders from China yet (except for xbeta's collective order), but that's no wonder since the average salaries in China are still very low (a few 100$/month). Therefore not many people could really afford to buy it. Also most people don't have a credit card, and sending money abroad is difficult and expensive. Therefore I don't really mind if people from China do not buy the program for now, but of course I appreciate it very much if you want to actively support Total Commander. Btw, user Xbeta has just started a new collective order.

The average salaries is not really a meaningful number. There are already millions Chinese with a much higher income but still hundreds of millions who have much less than 100$/month.
