windows 7 / seven - cannot change fonts (says all hidden)

Post by *mastabog »

Hi,

I just installed Windows 7 x64 and I get an error message saying "All of your fonts are hidden" when I try to change any of the 3 fonts in TC.

I tried multiple things, such as:
- run TC as administrator
- disabled UAC
- placed wincmd.ini in either my profile directory or outside (e.g. wincmd dir)
- unhidden all fonts in win7

Nothing helped. The only website knowing anything about that error message is: www.win7dll.info/comdlg32_dll.html which basically lists internal resource messages from various dll files. This particular one comes from comdlg32.dll.

The only way I managed to change the font was to edit wincmd.ini and write the font manually.

Anyone has any idea? I'm actually surprised I haven't found anyone else with this problem. It woudl make sense if there were fonts issues, e.g. wincmd couldn't read them because of permissions, but it can since I am able to change the font by editing wincmd.ini.

My Wincmd resides ini C:\wincmd which is a fat16 primary partition (first one on the disk) and Win7 is one of a the logical partitions. The system has 8 GB ram and reasonable cpu power (C2D 4.12 GHz) :).

I'd be glad to provide more info if needed.

Cheers

Interesting.

Vista x64 and Win7 x64 behave different in this point.

->It's no problem to select the font in Vista x64 with "x64DisableRedirection=1".

->But it is not possible to select the font in Win7 x64 in case you've started TC with "x64DisableRedirection=1".
You need to reset the setting and restart TC.

On more reason to leave "x64DisableRedirection=0", and to use SysNative folder instead to navigate into the real system32(64bit) folder.

Regards
Holger

Very interesting indeed ... many thanks! It would have taken me a long time before trying that.

I switched from Win XP x64 and I had no problems with "x64DisableRedirection=1" ... I do prefer to be able to access the real system32 folder though, I forget I'm in the syswow64 folder otherwise :)

The font issue does seem like a small bug though ... TC should be able to select fonts regardless of the x64DisableRedirection setting value.
