= Problems with 64-bit version of Windows 7 =

Post by *jcm »

Hi,

It is clear that the Total Commander has some problems with 64-bit version of Windows 7, and the developer should review the program for this version since it is the market eventually prevailed. All new computers come with 64-bit version, none with the 32-bit.

Both the Total Commander plugin Wince like this are not perfect (the plugin Wince does not even work) with 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

It works just fine here! However, you need the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 update for Windows 7:

Hi,

I have installed "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1", but when I want to manage files between my PDA (WM 6.1 Pro) and my PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) I would be interested to use Total Commander (with Wince, for example), it is more convenient than Windows Explorer. Unfortunately I can not now use Total Commander (formerly Windows XP and everything worked perfectly with ActiveSync Wince). It is this problem I mean.

Moreover, as Total Commander is not designed for 64-bit (albeit compatible), there are additional problems like the option not functioning Properties ... and surely more will find some other fault.

Today, all modern PCs come with Windows 7-64, and although many applications are compatible 32-bit programs like Total Commander does not work 100% in 64 bits, so I'm observing. It's a shame, because for me it is indispensable Total Commander (v7.50a) for all my work on the PC (I also have Total Commander on my PDA, the v2.52 beta2).

You have to run TC as normal user, not Administrator, otherwise the WinCE plugin cannot "see" the connection - connections to Windows Mobile devices are by user not, system-wide.

Hi,

I'm a user (with user key), but both manager ... single PC user. Create a user without management skills to use Wince just not very practical, right?. If she worked well, with a user without management skills, would struggle for many other functions on the PC ...

Still, that does not work the Properties option in Total Commander, should it also be solved this way?.

I think you misunderstood Christians advice.

Please try again with unchecked:

TOTALCMD.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility:
[_] Run this program as an administrator

About the Property dialog:
Do you have X64Redirection permanently disabled?

Regards
Holger

Hi,

Thank you very much for your help. Indeed, by changing the Properties option that says in its first issue now works perfectly if I Wince ...Finally, thank you very much!.

Regarding your question (Do you have X64Redirection permanently disabled?) Do not quite understand, I'm not fluent in Spanish and English (I use the Google translator). Will you could explain it better?. Thank you.

What if I want my Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) when starting the program Total Commander is that this program if I want to change my computer (actually tells me that is a 32-bit, and my Windows 7 is 64 bits ). With Windows Explorer never asks this question. If you disable these messages, and Windows 7 TuneUP warn me that there is always the danger to the safety of my team.

Greetings and thank you very much for your help,

I'm referring to this one:
jcm wrote:La solución está en aplicar el comando "cm_SwitchX64Redirection" en el Total Commander, para que pueda visualizar carpetas de 32 bits y de 64 bits.
google Translate wrote:The solution is to apply the command "cm_SwitchX64Redirection" in Total Commander, so you can view folders of 32 bits and 64 bits.
-> If you turn the redirection on (unchecked start menu entry or button with command "cm_SwitchX64Redirection")
-> restart TC
Is it possible to call the Property dialog via context menu or <Alt+Enter> in this case?

Kind regards
Holger

Hi,

If he knew and this command to display special x32 and x64. Create a button in the menu to enable or disable this command. If it works I have enabled synchronization with Wince, I must have it disabled. Is it normal?.

I'm not sure, if I understood your post correctly.

First let me explain that disabling the file system redirection was never thought as a permanent solution:
F1-Help, 4.b wincmd.ini wrote:x64DisableRedirection=0
1: Disable the redirection of windows\system32 to windows\syswow64 directory on 64-bit Windows versions. Can have some negative side effects like non-working plugins.
While this mode is active, any 32bit-DLL, which tries to load another 32bit-DLL from 32bit-System32, will fail.

Christian Ghisler did a lot of adjustments to make it run in most cases, by temporarily reverting the mode while doing some system calls or loading plugin DLLs, but sometimes this will fail because the called DLL tries to load additional DLLs afterwards.
This is exactly what happens if you try to call the "Properties" dialog with disabled redirection.

Furthermore, disabling the redirection is only necessary in Windows XP x64, because Vista and Windows 7 offers an easier way to access the native 64bit-System32 folder:

You can use the path C:\Windows\SysNative to access the 64Bit-System32 folder, even while redirection is enabled!

Kind regards
Holger
