Default parameters for Command Line and Quick Search

Post by *dsy »

Hello,

Did you try recently to install TC from scratch? It seems the default parameters values come from Windows Commander for Windows 3.1 ;)
Because of:
- quick search is not automatic, you must type Ctrl+Alt
- command line is displayed all the time

Do you use more frequently command line than quick search?
I don't and I propose these new default parameters:
- Show command line = unchecked. I use left arrow to show it when I need it.
- Quick search = letters with search dialog because I use it a lot.

What do you think?
I know it is useless for home users because they install TC one time but it would be very nice for pro users.
I already tweak the TC setup (extracting files and changing the INF file) but its not easy to manage updates.

I voted Ctrl+Alt+Letters - but actually I use AltGr+Letters (only two keys).

Alt+Gr which exist on most non-US keyboards (Including French) is equivalent to Ctrl+Alt.

I voted [face=Courier]Letters with search dialog[/face], but as far as command-line goes, this…

…doesn't work with custom-columns view with large or many columns: if a scrollbar is shown, then the arrows are used for scrolling.

Ohh ok I didn't know that.

I tried to play with "custom column":
- the scrollbar is not displayed by default, you have to select the option in custom view.
- if the scrollbar is displayed, the left or right key doesn't work
- but you can use the Shift+left or Shift+right key to display the command line

if a scrollbar is shown, then the arrows are used for scrolling.
Just use Shift+Left arrow (or Shift+Right arrow)

There should have been an option for Alt+Letters. I use that.

Sorry I cannot add this option to the poll because I cannot edit it.

Letters with search dialog, and
[ x ] Beginning (name must start with first typed character)h.

Yet I would prefer if I didn't have to enable that option; instead:
[ x ] Enable Regex.

Thus one could search for:
  • ^SomeWord
  • Foo(Bar)?
  • ^Test[1-4]
Could be a checkbox right beside the current Filter [Ctrl+S] to enable/disable.

If not regex, then at least allow ^ to indicate "Beginning of Line". If you need to match that character (when its the first character), then use it twice.

You can search Word beginnings with QuickSearch eXtended.
In the new version also a small gui is supported to change search beginning on the fly...

Letters only with Samuel's plugin.

Long time ago I had Ctrl+Alt+Letters but I no longer need commandline (disabled completely with RestrictInterface parameter).
