Additional Shortcut for QuickSearch - Current dir

Post by *bb »

Hi,
Additionally to the existing ctrl+alt+letter or other combinations i'd like to see ctrl+s (like in midnight commander) to start "cm_showquicksearch (Show name search window)"

I already defined this as a userdefined hotkey but as it is a common use and ctrl+s is not used yet afaik why not implement it as a default option for quicksearch :)

Well, there are a lot of "not used yet" keys, as for me I set cm_showquicksearch to "Alt"+"Q". But that doesn't mean it should be default one, I guess... %)[/face]

CTRL-S is used for 'save function' in all Windows apps equipped with one, at least all that I know. It's absolutely contraproductive to set it to a search function.

Imho an appropiate hotkey definition would be 'save tabs', for example...

Anyway, ctrl-f is FTP dialog instead of search dialog so maybe my definition of intuitive handling is plain wrong. ;)

As for me it is cm_ShowOnlySelected. Actually Commander use KBD mapping scheme inherited mostly from NC. So forget about "all Windows apps"... %)[/face]

...all Windows apps equipped with one (a save function).

Ghisler "even" started a poll about if F2 should be changed to rename function because new users are used to the explorer, not NC. So he recognizes that times are changing...

DOS is dead -> NC is dead (for all but the freaks and special purposes)
Windows is alive -> TC is alive

Time to let go. ;)

So what?

Well, it looks like you have no idea about NC KBD mapping scheme - "F2" stands for user menu there, not for rename.

i> So he recognizes that times are changing...

Did you read that thread, actually? "I'm considering to change F2 only". And this is related with NC in no way.

Blah-blah-blah... Pathetic.

What is Total Commander?

Total Commander (former Wincmd) is a file manager for Windows (TM) similar to the Windows Explorer. But Total Commander uses a different approach: it has two fixed windows side by side like a well-known file manager for DOS.

Here are some key features of Total Commander:

- Keyboard functions similar to the DOS original.

And actually that "well-known file manager for DOS" was not NC.

So go ahead, buddy.[/face]

From TC's help:
"The idea for the screen layout was taken from DCC, a Norton Commander (© Symantec) clone." :D

Well, it looks like I should repeat it to you time after time. OK, I'll start a new task in scheduler - "Repeat Princess that she shouldn't answer my posts". How often should I do it, BTW? I guess once in a month should be enough to make you remember it for sure.[/face]

Guys please!
Don't do it, not here, please.

I know many forums (I'm sure you, too) which I used to visit but... I don't do it any more. Why? Because of the forum users, because of their behaviour, because it started like here - from one or two posts and... soon most post was not about the forum topics but about BIG NOTHING.

Please, don't do it here. If you really have to argue do it on the other forum, on ICQ, etc. - but I believe you don't have to.

IMHO it's one of the most useful forum in the world, and one of the most friendly. And let it be. There are so many great people, I got a lot of help from them (from you, too), I used to talk with some of them privately (via ICQ) and it's great. Now I know lot about their private life, their habits, I know when they come to the forum, what are their preferences (eg. who likes keyobards, who uses some plugins, etc..) and... I love that all. And I don't want to lose it.

Please.

When an arrogant freak showing no emotions at all in his postings calls another one an idiot without any reason and comments contributions of other people (in this case me) with Blah-Blah-Blah, I don't keep my mouth shut, sorry djk.
The atmosphere doesn't get better at all when you start to accept these kind of people. In a moderated forum such posts should be instantly moved to the Bin to preserve the good mood people with balanced characters are expecting.

From Forum rules:

(..) If you don't comply with these rules you'll have to face a set of sanctions, including the banning of your account or IP address.

Yes it is. Sorry feelings aren't mutual! :D

As often as I will keep teasing you! ;)

Thanks for mentioning the forum rules. It seams though that Christian is so kind that most of the rules aren't applicable and there's a high tolerance on the "Profanity and insults will not be tolerated" bit!
