File transfert & Download Manager Issues / whish list

Post by *ruymbeke »

Hello,
First of all, thank you for this new version of TC!
and I hope this is the right place to post this.
1)
When copying big files with the download manager (F2),
it looks like that the download manager window is almost dead,
hard to do anything with it like: move the window, cancel the transfert, ...
This is typical when using a big buffers setup size in the copy delete options.
2)
When using a Speed Limit, small buffers should be used and override
the big buffers settings to prevent a huge duty cycle of big chunks
transfert and then nothing and so on.
I am looking for something similar to the SlowCopy plug-in,
which allow you to still work on your computer when having
a heavy transfert in the background but with on the fly
ajustable speed limitation.
3)
I would like to stack packing actions (ZIP as an example) in the dowload
manager in order to have them done one after each other.
Parallel Zipping is not efficient at all and I don't want to wait for
the end of the first one to launch the next one,
especially if there is a lot of big ZIP files to make.
4)
The Transert speed indicator works with big files
but not with a lot of small ones nor with packing (Zip).
5)
A global transfert progress bar would be great ...
6)
The option to run transferts on the dowload manager simultaneously
when differents drives, network shares or FTP servers are involved
and the option to pause/restart/resume them individually
would be great.

Thanks again
Gilles

I agree with you on some of your points :

3) it wouls be nice that these ZIP operations could be delegated to the background transfer manager
5) a global transfer bar to let us know the position and the time left for the operations in the background transfer manager

Your wish on point 6) can be resolved by launching more than 1 background transfer managers !
