Copy Command - Wrong Taskbar Progress Status Percentage

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Copy Command - Wrong Taskbar Progress Status Percentage

Post by *CharlieSmith »

Total Commander (x64) 8.0 Beta 12

Halfway thru a Copy command, I noticed a problem:

In the Copy dialogue box:
Copied 19000 of 25000 files
Copied 21GB of 30GB
The Green progress bar showed correctly, with a percentage complete of 71%

In the Windows Taskbar:
The TC icon and the TC name showed correctly
The green progress bar background behind the icon showed correctly
HOWEVER: The Percentage number still showed 19%, it was not correct and it did not update along with the progress bar

I have saved a screenshot of the problem if anyone needs more info.

During further tests, the percentage in the Windows Taskbar is not even displayed at certain times.

What percentage do you mean? There is no percentage in the Windows 7 taskbar. Or do you mean in the systray near the clock?

I could reproduce similar thing only when I press "Background" button on Copy progress dialog.
CharlieSmith, do you mean percentage in the tooltip which pops up in a second after hovering mouse pointer over taskbar button? If yes, I don't think it's TC problem. It's the way Windows works.

Yes, the tooltip isn't updated by Windows while it is visible. Try to move the cursor away from the icon and back to update the tip.

Thanks for responding to my query. I went away for a few days and my Internet facilities was unexpectedly bad at the resort so I could not read the forum.

Valentino is correct: It looked exactly like the Taskbar button when in "Background Mode", although I was not in Background Mode, for the Copy Dialogue Box was still being displayed and updated in real time with correct info.

In subsequent tests, I am now able to see the green background progress bar on the Taskbar button, but cannot again see the percentage display, either wrong or correct.

Although I still have the screenshot with the error, let us for the time being assume it was a local glitch in Windows 7 and not a Total Commander 8.0 (x64) Beta 12 problem.

Maybe I was also just a little bit too quick to post the "bug" and should have done more extensive tests, but I have not before seen a bug and I am one of the earliest users: My Single User License number is less than License #1000.

When I copy or delete in the foreground, there's no percentage on the task bar button, just green progress bar (example).
Percentage is drawn (in my case) only when copying/deleting is performed in background (example).
Both FG and BG operations.
But probably it depends on Windows and Total Commander settings.

From your screenshot it looks like you have two operations: one is in background (19%) and one is in foreground (71%). Strange that we don't see green progress for foreground operation.

I can confirm that.

In CharlieSmith's image, there are two TC icons - the upper one seems to belong to the background thread, the lower one to TC's main window.

Yes but why the lower one doesn't contain progress bar reflecting foreground copying?..
