Sorry, I don't currently want another icon. Why? Only the first icon of an EXE will be used by Windows, e.g. on the desktop or in Explorer. Alpha channel icons do not work on other versions than XP, and if apha channel and non alpha icon images are mixed in the same icon, XP will use the one without the alpha channel...

I _cannot_ confirm this!

Please, take a look at my NTFS Links program. The main icon I used there contains both alpha-channeled and 256-color images with different dimensions. For the titlebar WinXP uses the alpha-channeled icon, Win2000 uses the 256-color icon.

Strange, I read something else. OK if this really works, I agree to a 16x16 alpha channel icon.

I did a further tiny little adjusting of the icon color:

The blue color is _very_ slightly more saturated now. I also reduced the green value a little bit to make the icon look a bit more crisp (Hi wanderer ).

:D Indeed!

That's why I amphasized the word _slightly_ in the first post. It is indeed a very little change and quite hard to notice in concrete, but I think the overall appearance has improved nevertheless.

Also the previous color wans't that bad IMO, so I don't want to change it completely...

The main reason for this change was wanderer's remark here about the 16² icon in another thread.

Hi StickyNomad.

Yup, in both CRT and LCD screens it seems a little better. The difference is very small but visible. In the default Win XP theme in an LCD screen though, when minimized to tray, the original blue TC icon looks much clearer than the new one (and much uglier too of course). Probably the background color of the tray area can be blamed for that.

I tried reducing the Green from 60 to 50 in the little icon but you probably like to keep the palette common in all icons and i'm afraid the larger ones may look more blue-ish than you'd like. Perhaps 55 might be a better value but in any case the difference is very small. I know, it's very difficult to make it look perfect everywhere so just use the new colors. They are better than the previous version.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Thanks for the feedback. I've sent the new version to the author. I hope it will be included in the next beta.

You're right, it unfortunately is impossible to have an optimal appearance with all BG colors. But I consider the new blue tone to be quite suitable.
Too bad though, that Luna's taskbar has a quite dark blue background itself, but I never understood how they could use such a saturated and dark color for the taskbar anyway, so I don't want to choose another blue tone just because of this...

For now I'm quite satisfied with the new look. Let's see how it looks in action...

Great job on the icon, I love you work. Can you make me a 256x256 version please? I found this topic in the past, but I forgot about it, so after several hours I found it again. Tried to ask one politely if it would be implemented in the Total Commander, but after the disagreement with MVV, I don't know for sure it will make it in the final version of Total Commander 8.0. If for some reason this is not possible, can you make one for me please? So I don't have to deal with jealous persons who would not like a slightly bigger icon that can support Windows Vista/7/8.

Here is the other topic to get a rough idea what's going on: http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=12388
I would highly appreciate it. Thanks!

Yes, please add a 256² main icon. It looks so much better in todays application launchers than an upscaled version of the 48² icon.
