Encrypted files

Post by *Thany »

The attributes column of the file lists don't show whether a file is encrypted (Windows 2000 and later), while they do show whether a file is compressed. Can this be added?

btw, hint to Christian: you can use FILE_ATTRIBUTE_ENCRYPTED ;)

Indeed the NTFS encryption isn't actively supported because it's not recommended to use it. On one side there are known backdoors, and there is also a problem that the drive can become unavailable if a certain file is lost, even if the password is still known...

Christian, it looks like you missed the point. A lot of people ask you to "show whether a file is encrypted" as well as is it e.g. temporary etc. I.e. to show more letters in "Attributes" column and support them appropriately by search function and filters. And the same thing is about two not currently supported timestamps ("created" and "accessed").
Actually the present day situation with file attributes support is real Middle Age. You can hide this attributes in Commander panel, but you can't prevent people e.g. from encrypting their files. So I can't get what all this "inquisition" for - may be to force people to use Explorer? That's completely beyond my understanding.[/face]

There is a poll about which file attributes do you want to see in Total Commander: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=1888
