Feature request: reload file icons command

Post by *Flint »

Quite often I install new programs, they set their own file associations and icons. But Total Commander does not update them, even by Ctrl+R. I think, this is made for higher update speed, but sometimes it is necessary to reload icons. At preesnt I need to restart TC to update icons, but I don't like to do this. I suggest to add new command into totalcmd.inc that will update icons of file associations.

Maybe it's possible to add the command for restarting TC (as used by some plugins) as internal command for such purposes.

Restarting is bad for me for many reasons, even if it will be done by internal command. The main reason is that I want TC to be at fixed place on the taskbar - it is started with Windows and is always first. So if I want to switch to it by mouse - I can do it very quickly as I don't need to search it on the taskbar (I have usually very many applications there...). Moreover, by restarting TC I lose some information: current files selection, recent folders history, if I'm in archive - TC returns from it on the upper level...

Indeed icons are cached. Try files - associate - OK, this should clear the icon cache.

Yes, it really works, thanks. But... A command that can be set on some hotkey is much more convenient ;)

Just a suggestion: maybe a workaround for you could be to define a shortcut/button for the "files - associate" command, so you then could press your SHORTCUT followed by ENTER to re-read the icons.
