How deselect all using the mouse In RMB selection mode?
When I drag the right mouse button, it selects multiple files (good).
However, I need to quickly deselect all files after I'm doing what I was going to do with them. Is there a way to do this using just the mouse (without using the menu or keyboard)?

Right-clicking and dragging over selected files deselects them .... for me anyway.qda wrote:When I drag the right mouse button, it selects multiple files (good).

Re: Noob question: How do I deselect all using just the mous
Yes, but that's fine only if you don't have 1,000 files selected (the scrolling would take ages) and if ALL your files were selected (otherwise your unselected files would become selected: right-click in fact INVERTS the selection, for each file individually).CharlesF wrote:Right-clicking and dragging over selected files deselects them .... for me anyway.

Agreed. However, if the files were originally selected using right-click + drag, then there aren't so many of them that you can't us right-click + drag to deselect them.fredscal wrote:Yes, but that's fine only if you don't have 1,000 files selected (the scrolling would take ages) and if ALL your files were selected (otherwise your unselected files would become selected: right-click in fact INVERTS the selection, for each file individually).CharlesF wrote:Right-clicking and dragging over selected files deselects them .... for me anyway.
For large numbers of files the best way to select and deselect files it to use the relevant command via a keyboard shortcut or button.

If you're not at the top of a drive (eg C:\) you can go up, then back.
I do it with the keyboard, BACKSPACE, then RETURN but you can also click on "..", then on the back button (left arrow).
(I know there's Ctrl-NumMinus, just got so used to BS/RET)
If you really need only one click a custom button with cm_ClearAll would be best, as CharlesF suggested.

Re: Noob question: How do I deselect all using just the mous
Actually until you release right button, it does only selecting or deselecting, depending on state of file where it was held. If you right-click selected file and then move mouse, it will only deselect files, it won't select deselected files. And vice versa.fredscal wrote:if ALL your files were selected (otherwise your unselected files would become selected: right-click in fact INVERTS the selection, for each file individually).

I just checked, and I was mistaken indeed.
(I don't know where that notion came from...
perhaps was I recalling a very old version of TC ???)
@CahrlesF, meisl : I use these tricks personally, but gda asked for a solution using only the mouse.
(but yeah, there are may solutions using the keyboard: CTRL-A then *, to name just another one... ;-))

I've already suggested two mouse ways w/o a lot of moving, via menu and via buttonbar button. Of course it is much faster to use keyboard, but with mouse one need to do at least one click somewhere, and buttonbar button allows it.
