-[8.51ß1] Error "TWinControl.WMSize loop detected"

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-[8.51ß1] Error "TWinControl.WMSize loop detected"

Post by *Gerby »

Hi,

I've just gotten a popup window displaying the following error (TC 8.51ß1 x64, Win 7 Pro x64):
---------------------------
Total Commander 8.51ß1

TWinControl.WMSize loop detected, the widgetset does not like the LCL bounds or sends unneeded wmsize messages: W_DriveInfoDriveBar2:TMyPanel BoundsRealized=l=3,t=26,r=516,b=47 NewBoundsRealized=l=3,t=26,r=29271939,b=393975.

Windows 7 SP1 6.1 (Build 7601)

Please report this error to the Author, with a description
of what you were doing when this error occurred!

It happened when I pressed the Return key in order to enter the selected directory (so really nothing special).

[EDIT]
Maybe I should mention that I run Microsoft's EMET tool and that all mitigations are applied to TC. However, this error did not occur the last months using TC 8.01 and TC 8.50 (betas and final) with the same configuration and plugins.
[/EDIT]

Greetings

As you can see in the r= and b= values, TC is receiving ridicilously large values for the window size. Any idea why this is happening?

Not really. The main TC window was positioned as always. I have a dual monitor configuration. But this wasn't a problem all the years.

The only thing I can think of is the new graphics driver for the Intel HD 4000 GPU. I just updated it two days ago.

So, this doesn't seem to be a major issue described in the error message? I just wanted to report it as asked there and can live with it. If it ever happens again, I will of course give a note.

The error comes from the Lazarus component library, not from TC - it complains about the bad coordinates.

Can you tell me the exact version number of the driver? My Windows tablet has the same GPU, no problems so far. And what do I need to do exactly to reproduce it? What are the steps to do in this EMET tool?

Unfortunately, I cannot tell a way to reproduce this error message. Here it only occurred once (see my description in the first post).

OK, I will not try to fix this if it isn't a regular problem.

It looks like a Windows bug. I get a very similar bug with many programs on Win8.1 (but without error messages). After sleep or hibernation sometimes one of the windows is far off the screen (usually to the left) and has zero size.
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...
