Bug combining files

Post by *robinsiebler »

When files are combined, a dialog appears asking where you want the output file placed. The dialog already contains the path of the non-active pane. However, I always want the file placed in the active pane. Inserting '.' into the dialog *should* place the file in the current directory, but it doesn't. I always have to type in the current directory.

Well, put a space or nothing at all. Like this: " " or "" ;)

Just delete the 'path' entry and you get the desired result.

A space doesn't work. ('the given target path is invalid')

Very simple

:)   Hello !
• Simply open the same dir. where are your partial files in the other pannel. Select the first partial file and launch "Combine Files". The output file'll be located in the same dir than the fractions. Nothing to change in the dialog.
• To open the same dir. quickly, just click the same drive button in the other pannel. Indeed, the drive-buttons display must be enabled...

Claude

Us keyboard freaks use Alt+F1/F2. Much quicker!

Hi !
  False.
•I've always two drive-buttons groups - one for each panel -, an it's faster to click a button than to press two keys.
• Maybe do you keep your mouse in a draw under the PC ?
Mine is always in my hand...

It seems inconsistent with the behavior of Copy, Move and Unzip.
Also I find it not intuitive behavior. I would expect the file to be placed in the current directory.

Only if that button is located where the mouse pointer is placed. But you can never guaranty this (actually the chances of winning the lottery are greater). ;)

So, by bringing into the equation the time for dragging to a specific button plus the time for clicking being careful not to "misclick" any sided buttons... yes, Alt+F1/F2 is a thousand times faster! Using in addition a well organised Directory Hotlist it can be even faster! :D

Hi !
• No and no, this is a tale for kids! I use buttons for the most items in TC for years; I know where they are.
The end.

I guess robinsiebler woulkdn't like to open the same directory in the other panel. It's much quicker to combine (or unpack) to the same directory without to open a new panel. I do unpack or combine this way quite often.

To open the same directory in the other panel I prefer also to click the drive button and think it's faster than Alt+F1/F2 (although I normally prefer the keyboard shortcuts). Since TC 6.1 I use somteimes drag one panel and drop it on the other one.

Or Ctrl+Left/Right, but this doesnt work if a directory or an archive is selected.
Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.

As Sheepdog mentioned just kill the path by DEL or BS in one hit (it's already selected) and then hit RETURN. The same recipe works e.g. in Unpack dialog.[/face]

Then I guess that makes me a kid and a keyboard-oriented one! ;)

And I know where Alt and F1/F2 are located on my keyboard! :P
