Compare directories by names ?

Post by *Ed Wood »

Hi all,

wouldn't it be reasonable in Total Commander to not only compare the
files but also have a "flat" compare of the directories of two directory
structures (with or without even looking at the files) ?

In my case I have one subdirectory A (containing some files) in my left
window and two subdirectories A (containing some other files) and B
(containing some more files). When synchronizing I want to have the
A directories untouched (regardless the file differences) but I want to
synchronize the B directory. Plus I want to synchronize the B directory
even if it is empty. I would expect Total Commander to happen the
way I want when "Compare subdirectories" is unchecked, but also in
this mode only file differences are listed.

A more practical example would be a 200 users system, each of them
having a home directory in each of two systems. Now I want to compare
the two homedir roots for users that lack a homedir in the other system
regardless of file differences in the homedirs of other users.

I guess I am asking for a compare which looks at directory
differences and not just differences of the files within the directories.

I hope this is understandable at least a little bit ;)

Can it be done ?

Thank you,
Eddie

You can install the catalogmaker -plugin ( download
here
) Then make a catalog-file from your first directory and another one from your second. Compare both files with 'compare by content'. That should fit your desire.
