Strange error when TC starts (.net passport pops up)

Post by *Polo »

Hi,

Iam expecting serious error every time i start windows commander (no mather what version oo from what location) the microsoft .net passport sign windows appears and windows commander freezes. Its realy strange and i was not able to track why is this happening. It seems like one of the libraries which totalcmd uses was modified(??) i suppouse windowsupdate or office update coud done that?? Plese colud you privide me some information which i can use to solve this problem?

Have anyone heard about something similar?
Colud you tell me which libraries are used on totalcmd startup? The window appears before the startup screen comes up. Sometimes, i think once, after instalation, the totalcommanders option screen came up, but than it again hung up.

:?: :?: :?:

Perhaps you start TC with a parameter for an FTP connection?

No thats the funny thing, just click on the .exe file and the popup is there :(

p.s. ill double check it tomorrow. Maybe it is in some connection with office XP SP2 becouse, the .net passport is part of office. When i deleted all occurance with .net passport and then ran totalcmd at first office instalation dialog went up and then again... same thing

In the german forum is a thread about the same issue. The troublemaker is Service Pack 2 of XP (it's still a Beta-Version). There is the proposal to use the unpacked version of TC-exe. You can download it here. Don't know if it works but give it a try.

Do you use a PC with an AMD64 or Intel Itanium processor? It seems that no UPX packed program runs on these processors unter Windows XP SP2, because SP2 sets a flag which disallows execution of code on the stack.

Then it's certainly not the above mentioned problem. Did you find out the reason in the meantime? It really sounds like a problem with your system, or even a virus/worm which tries to connect to some site.

HI, Iam ifraid that the unpacked version is also not working. I'll describe how its behaving. I run totalcmd.exe, the first screen came up, press buton 1 or 2 or 3. When i do so, then the office dialog came up with message please wait while system is being configured (or something like this-hard to translate). SO i suppouse that guilty are the M*/$#@! office XP SP2. :-(

Its highly unprobable that its caused by somekind of worm/virus, the computer is protected with NAV2004 with actual definitions. :-(.

Stand by me :-)

So the problem is solved, i hope. Commander was starting in folder something/MSN/my pages. And opening this invoked the instaler to install some files from MS so you wolud be able to work with "remote files" as locally. When i found that, this dialog appears even in explorer i deleted whole shortcut or what it was.

:-)
