Problems with search in standalone Find Files window

Post by *ABTOP »

I have some problems with search in this version. It's impossible to enable search in selected files/folders in standalone search dialog "Find files". The option "Only search in selected directories/files" is always unusable and un-clickable. In the main search dialog everything is ok.

As the name already states "standalone search dialog" it is unrelated to any TC instance.
You can even start it without any running TC instance.
As a matter of fact it does not know about any selected files or alike.

Is there any way to get search dialog consider data about selected files/folders when one uses the command "cm_SearchStandalone"? Will this option appear in new versions of the program?

The problem is that the user could launch the standalone search, return to TC, and then change the selected files. Then he would complain that the search doesn't use that selection. Since this cannot be prevented, the feature is currently not available, sorry.

I see. But can you unlock this function in future versions of the program with adding the option in wincmd.ini which will make the user reopen standalone search dialog if he/she changes selected files?

Just think about it: you opened stand-alone dialog, changed some parameters, then modify selection... and dialog reopens and changes are lost! Or, if you change selection 10 times, should dialog be reopened 10 times?

Stand-alone dialog shouldn't communicate with main TC at all, it is stand-alone, it should just receive filelist. But there should be some notification that used filelist may be outdated if user changes selection. Perhaps same exclamation mark may be used here that is used for option to search inside of archives (so, if you open stand-alone search when selection is active, "!" is displayed near option to search in selected files). It would be even better to see a tooltip on "!" with note that selection won't be updated.

There are some things transferred from the main window to the non modal search like the current path. The difference to the 'only selected' option is that you can see the search path.

So the best way would be to show the selected files in some nice way in addition to just the option so noone could complain about not knowing what is actually selected.
