Some more details are welcome:

- You are using Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 or 10?
- You are running TC as administrator?
- Do you drag drop within TC or from/to another location?

Propably you are moving over non drop-able object!

Is the red circle appear also when you drag over a folder?

for more infos :
win8.1 64bits, tc8.51a 64
i'm administrator yes
and i drag and drop both, within TC itself as well as between TC and photoshop, but none work. As soon as i move the file/folder, i get the red marker ans these are not non droppable, it happens with every file or folder, and doesnt happen with windows explorer.

You can't Drag and Drop between normal processes and a TC running in Admin mode. Thats not possible in Windows. Explorer runs as normal process so it works.

Beeing admin doesn't mean you are running with enhanced rights all the time.
I guess you don't understand the security concepts of actual Windows versions.

I struck this too - can you please expand on the reason why I can't drop a .txt file on a .bat file for example?

What is the solution?

Windows 8.1 32 bit.
UAC disabled, std admin account
TC 8.51a

Dragging a text file to a bat file in the same folder, or to a different folder, I get the round red circle icon with a bar through it.

This has nothing to do with admin mode - TC simply doesn't support dragging of files onto executables. It's just too risky to accidentally start a program this way. Instead, please drag the exe/bat/cmd file to an empty space in the button bar. Then drop the a on that button to open it with that program.

Thank you for your swift answer.

I don't use drag and drop myself so this is not an issue - I'm testing some scripts for someone and wondered why it occurred.

You're quite right that files could be dragged onto the wrong place very easily.

Cheers

Solved: I turned on "Win 7" compartibility mode and drag-n-drop started to work.

I had the same problem. Couldn't DnD from anyhere, nor Outlook, nor Explorer.
Tx to somebody, who mentioned "run as Admin" - that sparkled this idea.
And tx for this thread! - I've struggled for half a year by now
