I regularly use the Search function to locate a particular file, typically these are in my document archives.
I have thousands of files and wondered in anyone knew of an indexing program that could be used in place of a brute force search. Basically, I want to Google-index subdirectories on my hard drive.
WordPerfect has a utility called Index Manger, and there may be an equivalent in Office, or as part of Win XP but I have not investigated these alternatives.
If there is a good solution, I would provide this search engine to eveyone in the office so they could quickly and painlessly find any .doc, .wpd or .qpw or even a .pdf.
There is an software category called Content Management but this seems to relate more to management of web sites then document archives.
Any suggestions or experience would be appreciated.

I use Locate at Home.
Its free and fast but doesn't index the content.

At work I used Enfish which is very powerfull program
but costs some money. It indexes file content (including Mail)
and brings its own viewers for a lot of formats.
