Weird spaces and point in the end of tooltips

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Weird spaces and point in the end of tooltips

Post by *sheppaul »

I've found something weird on the following tooltips while translating:

1537="History (Alt+Down)"
1538="Directory hotlist (Ctrl+D)"

Please confirm it.

ps. I've been using big mouse cursor since I started to use uhd resolution. So the position of tooltips looks not good for reading. Some parts of tooltips are hard to read under the big mouse cursor. Can you rearrange it over a mouse cursor?

This is by design: Lazarus seems to calculate the width of the tooltips incorrectly for some fonts. I could not find the cause, so I added some extra space and a dot to make sure the tooltip is always large enough.

I almost decided to report this, but found this thread :)
OK, it's not a big problem, I only want to add that the behaviour of additional " ." is a bit weird. When we switch the language in the Configuration, even if we select the same language and then press OK, this addition disappears and tooltips become normal as expected. I hope that soon or later, it would be possible to convert these tooltips to common form, like we have over the toolbar buttons or over the long filenames.

Would a non-breaking space (0xA0) work in stead of the period - it would certainly look better if it did?

Also - if I change language the trick with the spaces and a period doesn't work - I have to restart TC before it takes effect for the new language.

With System Tooltip font set to Arial 9pt it leads the "History (Alt+down)" to be cut off for the following languages:

Chinese
English (external and internal)
Español
Korean
Magyar
Slovenski
