Possible bug with encrypted ZIPs created by v6.02 maybe??

Post by *DRP535 »

Couldn't find any mention of this yet so far. Has anyone else noticed that encrypted ZIPs created with v6.02 cannot be handled by any other application other than TC v6.02?

By that, I mean if you create an encrypted ZIP with TC v6.02 nothing else apart from TC v6.02 will be able to extract it again. Not WinRAR, WinZIP, WinACE, hell not even earlier versions of TC such as v6.01, v6.0 or v5.51 either.

Is there a bug maybe in the way 6.02 does its zipping?

:)  Hello !
• I don't confirm this. I just tested a ZIP made with 6.02 unpack >>> WinRar, it works fine... I use the library WCMZIP32.DLL, 32 KB, Sept. 29, 2001.
• WinRar asks for the password, then all runs normally. Under Win98SE.
- Please, some minimall infos, PC, OS, the ZIP DLL you use... ?
  Kind regards,
Claude

What did you use as the password? Maybe you used some characters which shouldn't be used but which aren't filtered out by TC?

I have the same problem, and backwards

when I create a password protected zip file with TC, I can't extract it with winzip or winrar.

the same problem occurs backwards,
password protected zip file created with winzip, I can't extract it with TC, but it can with winrar.

Using:
TC 6.02, Winzip 8.1, Winrar 3.11, WinXP Pro, WCMZIP32.DLL, 32 KB, Sept. 29, 2001.(from clubtotal)

The password was nothing out of the ordinary or special in any way - just 'abcde'

800Mhz Duron, 384MB RAM, W2KPro SP3, the standard ZIP DLL that comes packaged up in v6.02.

I don't know the cause of the problem but it doesn't matter now because I've solved it anyway.

I had the same problem myself - but with a harder twist.
Password protected zip files created at work through TC - could not be opened through WinRar. Moreover - when sent to home - I couldn't open them at home neither with WinRar, nor with TC. Both TCs (Home and Work) have the same "wcmzip32.dll" file so I have no idea why I was unable to open those files at home.
I had to open them at work again and send them unprotected to home.

Change the DLL---

Post by *Clo »

2Genghis86
Hi !
• DRP535 told here that he used the standard DLL provided in the TC archive. It doesn't support passwords. Since I said him what DLL I used successfully, he changed it, I guess...
* You can get the right DLL here : wcmzip32.zip "Zip avec mot de passe"
* Please, make a backup, or change its attributes as "Read only", or else it should be overwritten at each TC-update.

2Genghis in Canada (or something like that)

If you PM me with an e-mail address - I didn't look at your profile BTW - then I will tell you what my specific problem was and how I managed to solve it. Be aware though that the problem I had may or may not be the reason why you are experiencing the same issue. In fact I dare say it probably isn't the same - but only you will know that for sure.
