RC4: Context-menu --> Properties without effect

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

RC4: Context-menu --> Properties without effect

Post by *Dennis_Stevens »

I have just upgraded to RC4.
Since then I cannot call up file-properties anymore.
The context-menu pops up but as soon as I hit "properties" nothing happens.
The other menuitems seem to work....

Maybe some W10 issue 'cause works fine for me under W7. Are you sure that it worked properly in previous RC?

I have started doing some photo-editimg this morning. There I have used RC3 and it worked. In a break I installed RC4. Since then nothing happens.

Context Menu still works fine with Windows 10 after RC4 update.
I guess you have some context handler installed / updated
which misbehaves.

Properties dialog is doing fine in virtualbox with the latest insider preview of Windows 10 and TC 9.0 beta 4 64-bit.

Nothing was changed in the properties function between RC3 and RC4. Something on your system must have changed after the update. Maybe a problematic context menu or property sheet extension?
A. Try after rebooting your PC
B. If that doesn't help, check with tool shellexview whether there are any problematic extensions.

Here are the instructions:
1. Get the free tool ShellExView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
2. Start it. If using Total Commander 32-bit, you need to get the 32-bit
version, otherwise the 64-bit version of ShellExView. The 32-bit
version needs to be called like this: shexview.exe /wow64
3. Sort the shell extensions by type
4. Disable all context menu shell extensions one by one (you can hide/keep
those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK).
5. Continue until Total Commander can show the properties again
6. Now you can re-enable the extensions which don't cause any problems
