Command "sleep x" may block FTP download of "

Post by *HerbieH »

Hello.

I try to download "Sleeper.txt" from my own remote FTP-server, it does nothing! No errors shown in the log-file either (Really..) And that goes for any other files containing the phrase 'sleep'.

When I renamed a file containing phrase 'sleep', directly on the server, to something, NOT contaning the phrase 'sleep', (Which I can do as an admin - - and btw. no errors doing that using TC), - then the file downloads nicely! :)

I found the following in the 'history.txt': '27.12.12 Added: FTP download from list: New command "sleep x" adds a delay of x milliseconds (e.g. sleep 1000) (32/64)'.

Might that be the reason?

PS: FileZilla does the job nicely downloading 'Sleeper.txt'

Anyone on how to solve this issue?

There might be some hint in the log files on this issue. I suggest to post the log - masking sensitive data, of course.

Make sure that you transfer your files in Binary mode, not Text.

Hmm, I just tried uploading and downloading a sleeper.txt to/from 3 different FTP servers, and it worked all 3 places.

So it must be due to (mis)configuration of your server, so as Dalai suggests - post your log file here (you can just double-click on the log window over the right file panel to open the current log)

Hello again. And Happy Easter. :)

Thank you Dalai and petermad for your answers. It made me investigate further.

It turned out, that none of my friends either had problems up-downing 'sleeper.txt' to/from my ftp-server using TC. Just me. :( - So i guessed it could'nt be server related.

After fiddling with my wcx_ftp.ini file I think, I found the culprit:
in [General] the setting 'FtpInBackground=1' seems to be the reason. Set to 0 (zero) = no longer any problems with filenames contaning 'sleep'.

OBS: When I download using, F2-F5, the error STILL occurs!

BTW: The error is in both TC32 and 64, to / from a 'normal' and SSL encryptet server.

PS: No errors using FlashFXP and FileZilla regardless of settings.
PPS: FireFTP generally sucks! :(

! I'm using the newest versions of all programs incl TC

As requested, part of my logfile:

I can confirm that download AND upload of sleeper.txt in the background does not work!

Here is my log for download of sleepet.txt - first in the background (F5-F2) and then in the foreground - and finally download of sleper.txt (one e) in the background. My comments are preceeded with ....

Huh. I can confirm this funny bug (kind of funny at least). Uploading "sleep.txt" in the background doesn't work at all. TC does nothing. There's NO ACTIVITY on the server side either! So TC doesn't at least try to transfer anything. Transfer in the foreground works as expected.

Thanku again Dalai and petermad for taking the time to confirm the bug. I'm not sure of the procedure now, but I hope mr. Ghisler reads this forum, and at some point corrects this annoyance. :)

I will check it, thanks. It seems to collide with a "sleep" function of the background transfer manager.
