TC crashes when pressing F3 on recording from Android phone

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Not confirmed.
Do you get a crash when you press Alt+Sghift+F3 (= no plugins)

No.

Today I got hangs instead of crashes. Anyway, I noticed an icon appearing in the notification area. Which I identified to belonging to AV Splitter. After uninstalling it I don't get a crash/hang.

That said, I don't think TC is adequately robust, if a simple codec/filter issue can cause a crash. A long while ago I had something similar with mp3 files and LAV Splitter.
