... and "everything" is selected.
as far as i can see, TC then does not find text in files that have no extension.
- activate "everything"
- search in a text file (with extension .txt) for a word that this file contains.
TC finds that text file.
now remove the extension .txt and do the same search again. TC does NOT find anything.
now deselect "everything" and do the same search again. now the search works well.
/edit: sorry, it's different. TC doesn't find files with no extensions here using "everything", no matter if text search is used.
this happens if "search for" is emtpy or also if i use *.*
hm... must be my everything settings?

This seems to be a misfeature of Everything: When you leave the field "Search for" empty, TC uses search string *.* . Normally, *.* finds all files on Windows. But "Everything" only seems to find files containing a dot.
Solution: Search for * instead of *.* or empty "Search for" string.

i did a lot of editing in the meantime, sorry.
i was searching for CFLAGS in a directory with source code, and was very surprised TC didn't find any makefile that contains this string.
but as edited in #1, leaving "search for" empty does not help, unfortunately.
* does though.
so we need either to set * or deselect "everything" to get accurate results. this is a bit confusing, but oh well...

Yes, I will have to address that. If only you had reported that 1 day earlier, then I would have fixed it in TC 9.0a. Now there won't be a new version until next year...
