Old plugins FileDiz and FileSys: still need or native in TC

Post by *spikey »

I have used TC since v6.50. I create a new test folder whenever I install a new version TC.

This means I have to copy and re-install old plugins. Usually I forget to do this.

I have found plugins FileDiz and FileSys (I don't even recall what they even do). Has their function been replaced by new native function in TC?

I don't know a FileDiz plugin, but the FileSys plugin contains fields that are not natively supported by TC.

spikey,
I create a new test folder whenever I install a new version TC.
Well, you could also backup your current installation folder and install the newest TC over it.

That looks interesting. What does the thread mean by "tags"? Is "tags" the same thing as the entries in the DESCRIPT.ION file (used by old versions of Acdsee and some other programs)?

I get the impression that they mean a bit more than that when they say "tags" in that discussion.

QuickSearch eXtended/Tags/file comments in TC (descript.ion)

Post by *tuska »

If you have read this thread carefully, then you should know the difference between "tags" and "file comments in TC".
I don't want to start a discussion regarding this topic.

If you are really interested, then give it a try.

Tip:
Under using QuickSearch eXtended with the plugin "FileDiz" the field "Long description" must be selected,
to be able to search for "file comments in TC" which are stored in the hidden file "descript.ion" and which can be created as follows:
Menu "Files" - "Edit Comment ... Ctrl + Z". In TC-Help (F1) please search for: Edit comment

You will notice that a lot of other fields are available using plugin "FileDiz" => for tags.

Also, other content plugins can be used together with QuickSearch eXtended.
For example: http://totalcmd.net/plugring/summary.html (see picture!)

Thanks for your reply Tuska. I think I will give this a rest for the time being as it is too cryptic for me and I have little idea of the difference between tags and file comments.

Customising TC is sometimes like trying to solve a crossword puzzle and not all the clues are easy. :-(
