Make the SyncHideHiddenSystem ini parameter work for dirs

Post by *wisekat » 2017-11-17, 15:34 UTC

I have the following setting in wincmd.ini:
[Configuration]
SyncHideHiddenSystem=2
This works fine for files, but does not work for folders.

I discovered it when I checked the 'Empty directories' checkbox in the 'Synchronize directories" dialog. The empty subfolders of the hidden .dropbox.cache folder from my Dropbox folder appeared in the comparison list, though they should have not been there.

Please, make this setting work for folders too.

Indeed this is just for files, not folders. From the help:
"Allows to exclude hidden/system files from synchronizing"

I wanted to have it working for folders too - there is no "file" word in the setting name (SyncHideHiddenSystem) that implies it works only for files.

If you want, you can provide a separate setting for folders. However, I think, it's better to have one setting for both.

Unfortunately that would lead to many problems, e.g. left side:
hidden folder containing not hidden files
right side:
not hidden folder containing hidden files

You are not quite right. In my opinion, the folder sync settings must have precedence over the file sync settings. If we exclude a hidden folder from the synchronization, no matter what files are in this folder - we simply ignore this folder with all its contents.
