Bulk Date Change on Folders to Date of newest File inside?

Post by *cripster »

Perhaps someone would be kind enough to help.

Recently got a new hard drive and began to copy files from an older hard drive to it. In one of the folders on the old drive there were a ton of downloads, all of which contained either the actual file creation date, or the date the file was downloaded.

After using the directory sync tool to copy files from the old drive to the new one everything seemed fine. I mistakenly deleted all the files on the old drive before noticing the files on the new drive all had the current date and time stamp.

Is there some easy way to have Total Commander recursively look through all the files and folders on the new drive and set the dates of those files and folders to the latest date contained in each?

If Total Commander can't do it natively, perhaps someone knows of a plug-in to accomplish this task?

Thanks for any and all advice or suggestions.

cripster,
Is there some easy way to have Total Commander recursively look through all the files and folders on the new drive and set the dates of those files and folders to the latest date contained in each?
What does "contained" mean in this context? How can a date be contained in a folder?

TIA
Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

see https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/folder_time_update.html
FolderTimeUpdate v1.51

Description
FolderTimeUpdate is a simple tool for Windows that scans all files and folders under the base folder you choose,
and updates the 'Modified Time' of every folder according the latest modified time of the files stored in it.

This tool might be useful if, for example, you backup a cluster of folders and then restore them into another disk,
but the backup program doesn't restore the original modified time of the folders.

Hmmmm? I can see where that statement is misleading. What I was trying to say probably should have been "date of" rather than "contained in".

Sorry about that! :)

Hello Stefan2. and thank you very much for the link to that wonderful program! In a matter of minutes, the program changed the file dates properly. This would have taken me days to do manually!

Thank you so much for your help.
