Lister and mouse 'Scroll inactive windows when I hover..'

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Lister and mouse 'Scroll inactive windows when I hover..'

Post by *sspear »

On Windows 10 I have 'Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them' ON (from the "Settings : Mouse" screen).

Case1
Arrange windows so half the screen shows a Lister window and the other half the Total Commander main window with many files in it:
Active: Lister window (class TLister), Inactive: TotalCommander main window (class TMyListBox2)

Hovering the mouse over the inactive TMyListBox2 window and scrolling causes both the TLister and TMyListBox2 windows to scroll

Case2
Arrange windows so half the screen shows a Lister window and the other half the Total Commander main window:
Active: TotalCommander main window (class TMyListBox2), Inactive: Lister window (class TLister)

Hovering the mouse over the inactive TLister window and scrolling causes nothing to scroll

Case3
Arrange windows so part of the screen has another non-TotalCommander window, say Notepad
Active: Notepad, Inactive: Lister window (class TLister), Inactive: TotalCommander main window (class TMyListBox2)

Hovering the mouse over the inactive TMyListBox2 window and scrolling causes only TMyListBox2 window to scroll, that is, TLister does not scroll.

It would be nice if:

1. inactive TLister window would scroll when mouse hovered+scrolled over it

2. inactive TLister window would not scroll when mouse hovered+scrolled over active TMyListBox2 window

Hmm, it works OK here in all 3 cases, the window that is hovered can be scrolled as expected, and no other windows scrolls at the same time.

Windows 10, 1709, build 16299.248
Logitech Mouse M215, Generic Microsoft HID compatible mouse driver, v. 10.0.16299.15

Maybe you have a faulty mouse driver.

Thanks for trying and reporting your results.

I can duplicate the problem I reported on two different PCs, one a Surface Pro 4 laptop with a TypeCover TouchPad, running the same Windows 10 version you mentioned. (I have the Touchpad set for 'drag 2 fingers to scroll'.)

The other is a Kangaroo PC that is running a different version of Windows 10.

As far as I know, I have the default mouse drivers, etc.

I usually have my touchpad disabled when a mouse is detected, but after turning the touchpad on, I still have none of the problems you describe.

I can also scroll inactive TC windows (and other windows) with the touchpad (2 finger scroll).

Okay, is there any debugging options I can enable to pursue this?

Not that I know of. But to rule out any TC setting, try and run your TC with a clean wincmd.ini file.

Also try an scroll the incative window with the touchpad - if that works, your problem is most likely a mouse driver problem.
