Move files without moving folders

Post by *rienvanham »

Dear all,

Sorry if it was already discussed:

Is there a possibility in TC to move files (in a tree of folders) WITHOUT moving the folders itself? SO that, after moving the files, the whole folder-tree stays intact?

Thank you!
Regards!

Isn't this is the default behavior?

Tell us more about what you want to achieve.

On my laptop I have a big tree of folders in which I store my emailmessages. At home I want to move the messages to my NAS (which has the same tree of folders). NOw, If I select the top-parentfolder and move this to my NAS then the whole tree is deleted. I just want to move all the files in de subfolders and not the folders itself.

You can use my CopyTree plugin in the following way:
0. Install it and associate with extension "CopyTree".
1. Select top mail folders and press Alt+F5, select "CopyTree" in plugin list.
2. Click "Configure" button and uncheck plugin option "Delete empty source dirs on move".
3. Check "Move to archive" option.
4. Click OK.

rienvanham,
Go into the top folder.
Press Ctrl-B (shows you all the files in its subfolders).
Select, F6, [x] Keep relative paths (relative to current directory), OK.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Copy Move files but keep relative folder structure.

2Hacker  Great, thank you.

(implemented 2013  and never seen)

History:
17.07.13 Fixed: Do not show option to keep relative paths in branch view when creating shortcuts with Ctrl+Shift+F5 (32/64)

26.02.13 Added: Show exclamation mark to the left of some checkboxes to warn user about possible problems: Copy: keep relative dirs from branch view, ... etc.

13.02.13 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] RelativePathCopy=2 controls option "Keep relative paths" in F5/F6:
Sum of: 1: enabled at start, 2: remember last option while TC is running 4: remember last option also after closing TC, -1: hide option (32/64)

13.01.13 Added: Option to keep relative subdirs when copying files from branch view, only enabled when F5/F6 copy dialog is actually shown (32/64)

Help:
New: When copying files from branch view (Ctrl+B), there is now an option "[x]Keep relative paths".
This allows to copy files with the full path relative to the current directory. This way the directory structure can be preserved.
Find me: Kopiere Verschiebe aber mit relativer Verzeichnisstruktur Kopie Bewegen mit Ordner Verzeichnis

I was also surprised, it is some kind of hidden feature, especially when CopyTree plugin exists. :D
