How to View movies and PDFs using Qtrl-Q

Post by *christofferl »

I would like to know how to quick view a PDF or movie file using the Qtrl+Q function :?:

As I have it configured today it shows just random letters etc.

Note that I am using Notpad++ and Irfanview + its add on plugin as internal viewers.

Install appropiate Lister plugin, e.g. "Mmedia" for video ( https://totalcmd.net/plugring/mmedia.html ) and "Sumatra PDF" for PDF files - ( https://totalcmd.net/plugring/sumatra.html )

Thanks, however the PDF Sumatra plugin does not have a 64 bit version ... so thus it not possible to fix this at the moment.

I also have problems with the other Mmedia plugin. Nothing shows up although I have installed it.

Below is the readme file which might help you to solve this:
--------------------------------

Multimedia Player and Id3tag Viewer Ver 2.62
============================================
This is an extention of my precedent MP3 player lister plugin
for Total Commander (version 5.50 and above only)

This viewer is always able to display Id3tag v1 and v2 while playing MP3 file
but also can play all media file "Windows Media Player" may recognize
(i.e. : MP3pro file, M3U playlist, all directshow codec, ...)
You must before add the extension in the "mmedia.ini" file.

- Since version 2.10, you have now the choice between MCI, MediaPlayer 6.4+, and WMP 7+ as player.
- Since version 2.43, OGG Vorbis comments are shown
(Recommended directshow filter for Ogg Vorbis file : http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ogg_directshow_filters.htm)
- Since version 2.53, MMedia is using MediaInfo library from MediaArea (coded by Jérôme Martinez)to display Video/Audio description
You can load it at http://mediaarea.net/ and use the installer.
if you dont want to install it, just place the dll in the plugin/Totalcommander/system directory.
(Note : use the same 32/64 version as MMedia)
- Since version 2.60, MMedia support now Unicode.

Installation
-------------
4 versions are included in this zipped file
- wlx_media32 and wlx_media64 are statically linked to MFC, size is larger but no DLL is needed
- wlx_media32_DL and wlx_media64_DL are dynamically linked to MFC, size is half the weight but 3 DLLs
from MFC9.0 are needed (MSVCP90.dll, MFC90u.dll, MSVCR90.dll)

Use the plugin auto-install interface, ie just open the zip file in TC
Try to install first the DL variant of this plugin, if TC display an error message then you are missing MFC9 DLL so install the statically linked version of this plugin

OR if you know what you are doing, you can install it manually :
1 - copy mmedia.wlx in your plugin directory

2 - add these two lines to your wincmd.ini (in 5.50)
....or use the Lister plugin interface (in 5.51 and above)

[ListerPlugins]
0=C:\wincmd\plugin\mmedia.wlx
(Change path to your real one )

3 - only for TC 5.5/5.51 users : disable multimedia (avi, wav,...) in lister configuration

4 - eventually, you can add or remove extensions in "mmedia.ini" (use edit button in 'about' tab)
two lines are provided
MMext is used for playing video files or visualization with audio files
MP3ext is used to display id3tag or Media information
you can switch between the two display with 'F' key

Use
-----
'SPACE key' can play or pause
'S' stop playing
'M' mute sound
'X' switch to fullscreen ('ESC' to exit fullscreen in MP64)
'Z' switch between 50, 100, 200% video size - only works with MCI/MP64
AltGr+'Z' switch between fit/100% video size - only works with MP64/WMP7
Ctrl+'N' / Ctrl+'P' : for playlist file (M3U), jump to next/previous file
'N'/'P' : according to lister's shortkey, jump to next/previous file
'+'/'-' : up and down the volume
'F' key can fit the player in the lister's windows or return to previous state
this can switch beetween Visualization/Movie and Information tabs
if playing audio file, Visualization is shown (the last you choose in WMP).
if playing video file, you can double click on movie to play it fullscreen
Ctrl+PgUp/Ctrl+PgDown : switch between tabs
Ctrl+number : swith to the corresponding tab
Ctrl+'E' allow edit ID3tag
to edit ID3TagV1, you can now edit the ID3tag while playing song but when saving
tags, the song restart to beginning

to use alternate interface mode
start the lister in QuickView mode and change the interface, it will be saved only for the QV mode

Just for your info: I used https://www.mp3tag.de/tc.html instead to solve the PDF viewer ... and it worked :)

So now it is only the media files we need to solve

It depends on your needs.
PDFview works with Ghostscript installed and can display PDF and Postscript (PS, EPS) files.
Sumatra PDF may work as a portable ebook viewer - it can display PDF, epub, mobi, fb2, fb2z, cbz, cbr, azw3, djvu…

For Quickview of PDF files with 64bit TC I use: https://totalcmd.net/plugring/slister.html. It uses Sumatra for PDF files.Works like a charm.

1. Which Windows version you use? Precisely!
2. You're sure you have Windows Media Player instaled?
3. Which plugin version you have instaled? Note there are "normal" - statically linked and "DL" - dynamically linked versions.
Unlike author of plugin, i recommend instal "normal" version - plugin file is bigger.
4. Which type of video you try to view? It is configured in MMEDIA.INI ?

1. It's still NOT precise, e.g. it could be "N" version (without WMP) but it does not matter anymore because of 2.
3. so install "normal" statically linked version
and check whether you have appropiate file type enabled in your MMEDIA.INI in plugin directory or post it's content.

OK, so I did now install the wlx_mmedia64u.zip file (not uninstalling the other one).
How do I check this? Where is the mmedia.ini file located?

Use menu entry "Configuration - Change Settings Files Directly" to open INI files.
In main ini (WINCMD.INI by default) search for [Lister Plugins] section and locate MMedia plugin - probably mmedia.wlx64 in your case.
(If you use ini redirection go to file with [Lister Plugins] section instead.)
Copy path to mmedia.wlx64, e.g. "C:\TOTALCMD\PLUGINS\WLX\MMEDIA\mmedia.wlx64" and paste in commandline of TC preceded with CD, e.g.:
CD C:\TOTALCMD\PLUGINS\WLX\MMEDIA\mmedia.wlx64
This command will take you to the program directory.
Look for mmedia.wlx64 - SL 2.6.2.0 version is 979 968 bytes long while DL - 486 912 bytes.
In this directory should be also MMEDIA.INI, check MMEXT key under [ext] section for enabled types of video.

Thanks for the thorough help here. I have done what you say ... but there is no MMEDIA.INI in that directory (only mmedia.wlx64). What is next procedure?

I'm sorry for the confusion - since version 2.50 mmedia.ini is placed by default in the wincmd.ini directory.
But it is created after first use of the plugin.
Find audio file, preferably MP3. Place cursor on it and press F3. If you see Lister window with mmedia plugin (WMP formant) go to "Options" tab.
There are options for MMEDIA.INI.

Sorry I am confused and not an expert here.

I have a MP3 and after pressing F3 it jsut shows up rubbish text in Notepad++. Where can I find this "Lister window"?

I have searched on my whole PC an no mmedia.ini file exists.
