How to map "alt+drag&drop" to "Auto-rename target files" when overwriting?

Post by *Joeyy »

In default setting, "alt+drag&drop" is mapped to "cut" while "drag&drop" is "copy". I want to remap "alt+drag&drop" to "Auto-rename target files" when overwriting(like the screenshot below), any way to do this?

I've searched the "redefine hotkeys" setting, can't find the "Auto-rename target files" command.

If I understand your goal:

Next time you alt+drag&drop, in the dialog box set Overwrite options to 5. Ask-rename copied and select the pin icon on the left to retain the setting in the future.

Directly in the copy/move dialog. That is, if you didn't disable it in TC's options for Drag'n'Drop.

There are two settings you have to write together under [Configuration] section

Code: Select all

ShowCopyOptions=1
CopyOverwriteDefault=5
Note: This will affect all Copy/Move operation not just drag drop.

Thanks for the complete answer.

P.S. Ultra TC Editors is a must-have addon for TC for non-beginner users. Thanks for this, as well.

Thanks! But it seems that it doesn't work. I have copy the two settings you give to my wincmd.ini file, but when I drag&drop one file to a folder, it still prompts "overwrite dialog box" to let me choose which option( overwrite, overwrite all, ..., more options)

And back to the question, I want to map "alt+drag&drop" (alt key+mouse "drag&drop" ) to "Auto-rename target "option(in "more options" of "overwrite dialog box"). Please tell me step by step. Thanks again!

Did you paste these lines into the correct wincmd.ini section, named [Configuration]? Usually that's the first section.

In addition be sure you are editing the correct Wincmd.ini and restart TC after editing Wincmd.ini

Use Configuration Editor to edit Wincmd.ini for better result.

Yes, I edited the correct Wincmd.ini and restart TC after editing Wincmd.ini. But now I have found the reason: I didn't check the "Drag&drop(copying files with mouse)" option in configuration dialog box.

Now the "5. Auto-rename copied" is pinned as default overwrite option in the dialog box, but can I just use "alt+drag&drop" to execute the process automatically without confirming the dialog box?

AFAIK no because there is no option (that I know of) to tune drag'n'drop behavior in such a way. But you might want to wait for Ghisler to respond, maybe there's some "hidden" option.
